Official Rules and Clarification, FAQ and Errata Book.

By Mykel The Vile, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Does anyone know if this book is available to buy or is it just a PDF file to be downloaded.

Was hoping to buy this.

The rules come with the core set. The errata/faq is just a pdf download

I'd love to see the expanded rules come with the CS. The flowchart for the player action and framework windows is extremely helpful (even if I get turned around by it sometimes). The CS rules could almost serve as "quick-start" rules, while the PDF could be provided as well (perhaps with the format changed a bit) to dig into the nuances and such. The errata might be more difficult, as it's a living document and can change more often. If I didn't have a crap printer, I'd print the PDF but I make due having it on my laptop nearby when I'm playing...just in case.

By looking at the PDF file and seeing the page numbers and the general layout, I could swear it looks like an official book.

No harm in making reference material look nice (general layout) and easy to use (page numbers). :)

As it is updated regularly, it wouldn't make sense for them to release a print version.

Do you think though minus the "Errata" a book like that would be quite appealing, especially for newcomers to the game who just have the core book to work off.

Will have to print off PDF soon I think.

I don't really see the benefit. First of all, it's not just the errata section in the front that gets updated. Also, it's just so very easy to download it and print it out. The only thing they could do is make more of an effort to point to the FAQ in the core set rules, so new players would be more aware of it.

I can also see how a lot of the FAQ stuff would be more intimidating to new players. A lot of what is basic stuff for experienced players is already labeled as "Expert Rules" in the core set rules, so a lot of the more intricate stuff from the FAQ might be more off-putting than helpful at first. Surely, players who are already familiar with games of similar complexity would probably welcome it, but the core set is also designed to bring in more casual players. That's why I think an explicit pointer on where to get the FAQ online would be best. Doesn't intimidate the new players but helps the ones ready to delve into the rules more deeply.

An 11x17, folded insert that had the most common FAQ and the flowcharts would be a nice addition; clearly the errata would be a useless document by the time most people opened their CSs. Some of the most common questions I have, and that I see on this forum from other newbies, regard timing issues. Clarification on that would be great. And there are still four or five people who don't regularly use the interwebs.

I doubt that the content of the instructions will change in any great amount; as it is, it gets the basics across. But the subtleties could use some illumination, and an additional pamphlet would be nice.

I do agree with this. The flowchart and explanations of the phases and timing windows in the flowchart would be highly beneficial for new players if it is labeled appropriately.

There are plenty of clarifications in the FAQ that will not be updated and think they would help explain a lot of what happens with how this game plays out.

Like I said, if things are labeled correctly on this document, like "Expert Game Play Detail" it would help new players tremendously.

I mean, they might as well put in the Core Set one page that references the web link to the rule book so they don't have to print the rule book.

Wonderful! Thanks for posting. I still get tripped up with timing, and having this handy (as opposed to using my laptop) should help some.
