US MCW-2C87 "Howze"

By Lotus, in Dust Tactics

Finished my first heavy walker. Bases didn't arrive in time but I think it made for better pics, personally. Totally scratch-built, so not perfect. Went w/ an M-10 style hull while keeping the turret enclosed and using the 90mm Gun (The M-10 was available mid-war so it's surprising to me that the sloped armor wasn't used more widely). Borrowed from the Pershing for the turret top details. 2-50 cals in the front. Went w/ a retro-bolted-plate look...I wanted something a little more edgy and perhaps rushed into production...and since the German walkers have bolted armor as opposed to welded, it seemed even more right. Quick dark wash on army green (my own mix) so nothing fancy.

Sweet! This is very cool. I think something we get hung up on is that because Americans didn;t have huge tanks operational through much of the war, the asthetic of this game has to stay that way. Look at the T-28.

The T-28 was designed by US Military during WWII. It was supposed to be used to break through German defenses and an eventual invasion of Japan.

The T-28 didn’t have a normal turret, so one might classify it as a tank destroyer and not a super heavy tank. This is probably the reason it was renamed from T-28 to Gun Motor Carriage T95 and later back again.

It was armed with 105 mm cannon and a single machine gun. It was so heavy that it had to use four tracks instead of the normal two.

Hey Lotus, can post a bigger version of all your pics? Would love to see your Howze in more detail. Thanks!

Fast, thanks for the history lesson happy.gif Enjoy reading your stuff. I'm getting more education here than watching Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers gran_risa.gif

Here's one...the other was 6" wide but somehow didn't look very big. Must be the fact they were all in one.

I managed to make the "gear" look in the back by slicing a ling superglue cap that was grooved.

Great work as usual. Really like the extra details you added to the top of the turret.

Thanks man, you'll see it soon. ;)

BTW, forgot to mention how much I agree that we shouldn't get too caught up in the historical elements (as much as I think they have a core place). We are talking walkers, new tech, and alternative history. The game is quite open to interpretation. Just the fact that the core game puts pounder-caliber turrets on Stuart chassis'...I think we're ok taking artistic license.

Sweet....... that walker looks good. I love the walking pose, looks like the Howze is labouring under all that tonnage happy.gif

Great Work !!
