Trying to get into this game, like the background and the fluff, but everytime I sit down to read the rules I get distracted and lose interest in all the details. Is there a quickstart or demo online somewhere to help speed up learning the game. I learn better by playing and seeing it played then by reading rules.
Demo/Quick Start
I'm not aware of any official quick-start rules or demo, but you might try my summary of the basics (for revised edition) here:

It should be the third post down. You may also want to consider Doc's suggestion that you start with one or two items per character to make it easier to play. If you do not have the character cards yet, you should purchase them because they make it far easier to keep track of what each item does.
Miah also has a great blog which has a number of Tannhauser resources. He did a "Tannhauser for Beginners" series not too long ago:

He also has an intermediate series, which has strategy tips, I believe. Also, when you get to know the game better, you may want to check out Doc Savage's page for additional materials and customs. There is a French fan forum as well called the Black Sheep Archives. Some older sites (Tannbunker) may have other materials of interest, but those resources may be for the original edition of Tannhauser.
Hope that helps! Please let us know how it goes and feel free to ask questions if you have any!

Is a concise maual, and I think it's good to a quick start.
My advice would be to play with one character a side and get the cards. If you want to start super-basic, just take each hero's special item only and move into battle and go at it. Add more items and characters as you get comfortable.

Good idea: I'll try to do it too
