Uneasy Truce + Crown Regent's Redirect

By Nanaki, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I can't find the answer on forums so I'd be grateful if someone would clarify this.

What happens if player redirects a military challenge while there is a "Uneasy Truce" plot card revealed.

We had few different opinions to what should happen

  1. Attacker have to pay another 2 gold to the new defender
  2. The gold payed to the original defender goes to new one
  3. Gold stays where it is and challenge goes as normal

I think the 3rd option is correct because you need to pay gold in order to initiate the challenge, and once it is initiated and attackers are declared then redirect is used.

So if redirect doesn't cancel that challenge but only... well, redirects it, attacker doesn't have to pay initiate already initiated challenge.

We ultimately gone with the 3rd option and I wonder if it was a good choice.

Oh and BTW: This is my first noobish question so be understanding ;)

Exactly right. The challenge is already initiated at the point of redirection. All of the play restrictions, including the one from Uneasy Peace, that must be satisfied have already been met. Paying the gold is over and done with.

(Someone very observant is going to say "what about the fact that if there isn't another legal defender for the challenge, the challenge cannot be redirected; doesn't that mean you are checking the play restrictions on initiating the challenge again?" That's a good observation, except that looking to see if there is another eligible defender is a play restriction of the redirect - not a play restriction on the original initiation of the challenge, like Uneasy Peace is.)

Actually, I would argue that this isn't a noobish question at all. It's a card interaction and timing question of at least moderate difficulty.

Nanaki,

Don't be afraid to ask even the most obvious questions here as sometimes the answers are not always clear. Plus everyone here understands when people are trying to learn the game and want to play it correctly.

Thanks for the answer.

I'm usualy pretty good at it. This just seemed like the answer could be obvious. ;)
