Favorite Faction

By jr53et, in StarCraft

Just wondering what everyone's favorite faction/race is with the bw expansion out. They had a similar discussion in the old forums where you could actually vote, and protoss came out on top, even though zerg players dominated the boards. (Probaly because Protoss send their votes telepathically). Mine would be...

Favorite Race in order-

1. Protoss

2. Terran

3. Zerg

Favorite Factions-

1. Tassador(sp.)- Love Warp Gate and both heroes, and good stage 3 leadership cards

2. Arcturus Mengsk- All leadership cards are great, and has a great level 1-level 2 combo with leadership cards. You can play the level 1 card where you pick the starting planets, and pick one of the ones with 2 cp's, then for level 2, pick the 2 cp's and gain a huge jump on cp's

3. Jim Raynor- Best faction for resources and fun cards

4-6. The Overmind, Aldaris, Sarah Kerrigan- Still have lots of love for all three, and play all three, but i don't like any as much as first 3. What's yours??

I haven't played the expansion enough yet to choose.

I only played it twice, so far the Queen of Blades is one of my favourites, because she really concentrates on the whole "rush early and finish fast" Zerg strategy - the Overlord is more "keep up the pressure". I like all factions though, and haven't really got a champion yet either.

The Overmind and Mengsk were my favourites in the old game; can't say anything yet for Broodwar.

My favorite is Tasadar (i would play with even with Aldaris but most of the times someone else wins by special condition). They have strong units but they cost a lot also. I think that he doesn't have suck a hard do to special victory condition (at least with the guys that i play. they always forget to put units on the zones so that they can controll them).

I also like The Overmind. Also a simple special victory condition that can be achieved easily. I also like about the zergs that you can overrun your enemy with units. (zerg style)

So far with the expansion I have played Mengst and Kerrigan. They are both very cool. I love the leadership cards I don't have a favorite expansion faction yet but my favorite hero is Kerrigan so far.

1-Kerrigan

2-Raynor

3-Mengsk

4-Overmind

5-Aldaris

6-Tassadar

Have you tried the UED yet?

I love Tassadar, Warp gate is great. But Kerrigan has the best hero in the game, hands down. Cloaking and Psi Storm + Recharge = "Y'all can't f*ck with us"
Not to mention starting with 2 bases on 2 planets..Harsh.

Humm; I haven't tried the UED yet, but the cards seems good

what is it? 4 minerals and 2gas ?

UED is relatively good but stage III cards are mediocre. The special victory isn't exactly one but it's fun to begin with a siege tank and get coll. damage and quick blast enemy bases! Other stage I cards seem fun too. You'll always be likely to take general Dugalle... the other stage II is bad.

They're good but not too much.

Admiral Dugelle

Siege Tank rule !!!!

I haven't played BW yet, but I've already got my favourites:

7. Overmind - Quite powerfull faction, easy SVC for larger galaxies, almost immortal hero (Torrasque), but I rather prefer playing Kerrigan as a Zerg. If you use Overmind's installations, they will probably be a target of others' attacks, but defending them as a zerg can be really hard (because of collaterral damage / Ganthritor / heavy offensives you can lose instalations easier than you think).

6. Tassadar - It seems to me to be "a hero killer" faction because of his heroes' abilities. Devastating 3rd stage card, great mobility thanks to Varp Gate. But i think (after experiences from primal version) it is hard to win by Tasadar (in larger, vast galaxies), despite of powerfull Protoss units, and even the Varp Gate. However, it will be very good choice for 1v1 game, if you survive 1st Stage.

5. UED - Tricky, demanding faction. I would say that "eliminating" at start presence of Raynor of Mengsk (because of blocking their figures) will help more your oppotents than you. Leadership cards force you to play agressive, hero's ability is purely defensive (or: helps the player to keep conquered areas). IMO it may be good faction to play Team Games, >3 players and you may have troubles competing with others in FFA (no true SVC, forced to gain Normal Victory)

4. Mengsk - In larger galaxies, with good setup - hard to beat. Always when I was playing against Mengsk, I was constantly trying to "bring the war" on his planets because of his SVC. Its Leadership Cards help to win the game "tactically", often without heavy offensive. Very flexible faction. Its only true problem are the resources.

3. Queen of Blades - I've always liked to "hunt" on CP areas. Because in BW Normal Victory is easier (changed sequence of Regrouping Phase), this faction will be the best choice for me in many games.

2. Aldaris - IMO definitely the best faction in BW to disturb many other players, also in non-military way. I played rarely by this faction before, but leadership cards: "Khala Devotee" (constant ability to mess up "a bit" order stacks), and "Destiny" (no Normal & Special Victory checking in current round) +its SVC sounds perfect to me. You can now also make a good use of your resource cards if you play Aldaris.

1. Raynor - I can hardly find any weaknesses of his leadership cards. Covert Operations at last makes developing Ghosts worth of effort. The faction with best economy, which allows to recruit numberous and powerfull armies. Sombody may say that other factions are stronger in combat, but I do prefer stronger forces comparing to their ultimate cost. Raynor weaknesses are: hero (quite strong, but in most cases I would choose rather 2nd, incredibly good card instead), relatively hard SVC to archieve (but I mentioned i like to fight for Normal Victory).

I like your descriptions, just don't agree with all the choices, but hey, that's what makes this game great, a lot of different play styles, and it all balances out so one person's #1 faction, might be another person's #7 faction. Case in point; you putting Tassador sixth, while i put them first. The protoss are my favorite race, and I absolutley love warp gate and both of Tassador's heroes. However, Aldaris has an absolutley sick combo of stage 1 and 3 leadership cards that was mentioned in another forum, and i've tryed it and it's worked. Play their stage 1 card that lets you win with 2 'The End Draws Near Cards', and when you get to stage 3 of the game, play the card that lets you play up to 8 orders. So you could draw 4 event cards from research orders, then you have 5 more orders to draw an event card for instead of executing. Then if you do a good job putting one of your many orders on top of an opponent's order and force him to draw an event card, plus any event cards that are drawn normally by either opponent's through research orders and taking the event card option. So you should be drawing at least 6 event cards, and if your playing with 3 other people, and they each draw only 1 event card through the course of the round, that's a minmum of 9 potential 'The End Draws Near' cards... Scary

My beloved fraction is Tassadar.

Overmind

Queen of Blades

Arcturus Mengsk

Tassadar

Jim Raynor

Aldaris

I'm ignoring the 3rd terran faction since I havn't played them well enough.

overmind. Has my favorite race, fav hero (TORROSQUE!!!!) and i just like him from the p.c game too.

In the core game my favourite race is Articus Megsk for several reasons:

The SVC is almost always the easiest to achieve, just expand to another planet and keep hold of both, normally all other SVC's require you to be on more than two planets.

The Marines, Vultures and Wraiths Combo alows you to use 16/18 of the combat cards effectively (i believe). Spider mines are an awesome tech!

Red is my favourite colour

As for the expansion, well i'm getting it very soon :)
