New Player - what to pick up after the Core Set?

By wminsing, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So I picked up the Core Set recently, really like the look of this game. Have not been able to get a game in yet but I'm sure I'm going to enjoy it. Which of the expansions should I look at picking up next, given the criteria-

1) I am not currently planning to play in tournaments, since there are none/few in my area

2) I will likely be buying all/most of the cards the local play group is going to use

3) I suspect most of my games will be in the 'Melee' format

So, which of the expansions or chapter packs would make the most sense as a 'second buy' in this case, in terms of adding the most overall variety and fun? Thanks in advance for any advice!

**** this FORUMMMMM and its no stickyd threads

sorry, nothing towards you.

ok so if your planning on buying all the cards for your play group and play mostly melee just get another core set, get 2 more core sets to really be able to customize some decks and give everyone decent enough plot choices. if you are going to play with 3 people usually i would say 2 core sets and 1 of each house expansion, lord of winter, kings of the storm, queen of dragons. but really you should be fine with 2 or 3 core sets

A 2nd and 3rd core set are awesome. After that each of the house specific expansion are great.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice! I hadn't thought about getting more core sets, but that does make sense- I will see if I can hunt some down at a bargin....

FFG REALLY needs a sticky thread for new players. I will make sure to mention to Nate this weekend. L5R does it very well from their main site as well with a link to the sticky thread.
