Several questions

By Martsi2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hey, I have been playing Arkham Horror for about month now (I own base game, Innsmouth and Black Goat) and now I have run into several questions regarding rules that I am unsure about. Sorry if these have been discussed before but I didnt spot these in older posts.

1. Monster limit on expansion boards: It says on Innsmouth rulebook that monsters on the board do not count towards monster limit, I have been playing this as that there is no cap on number of monsters in Innsmouth. It worked fine until my latest game where after several monster surges we had 13 monsters in Innsmouth which seemed bit much, am I understanding the rule right?

2. Terrible experiment rumor: If terror track is already at 10 when the rumor fails, does it just add one doom token or do nothing?

Also one not related to rules, I am using the investigator stands also for monter markers since it looks better then just laying them down on the board (also makes it easier to keep track of monster limit) and I am wondering is there any tricks to prevent the teeth on the stands from tearing the bottom of the markers? This also applies into the investigator stands.

1. You were right.

2. If the terror level is already 10 you're supposed to add a doom token to the track any time the terror level would rise but since it's not going up at all I don't think you would add a doom token to the track. Ten plus 0 = 10. I may be wrong so just disregard my answer if someone more knowledgeable chimes in.

If you file the teeth on the stands down they might still hold the tokens but I don't know from experience.

1. The monsters in Innsmouth will eventually walk into a Vortex, thereby adding a Deep One Rising token and increasing the terror level by one. So putting them into the outskirts via a monster limit would actually be better for you... Therefore there is no monster limit.

2. The rule book says:

Once the terror level has reached 10, if it ever increases
again (via a mythos card special ability, for example),
instead of moving the terror track marker, add one doom
token to the Ancient One’s doom track for each point the
terror level should have increased.

So if you are already at 10, by the letter of the rules nothing would happen. On the one hand, you could argue that there should be a penalty for failing a rumour so adding a Doom token seems fair. Alternatively, if the Terror level is at already 10 you need all the help you can get!

3. I do recall some people have found alternatives to the stands. The cheapest advice is to slide the holders into the existing grooves.

As already said, you played the monster limit right, and nothing happens when you fail the rumor. Well, something happens: all eight monsters are released into the streets. Since you're at TL10, this almost certainly pushes you into final combat by having too many monsters. That's penalty enough!
