Quick Question About Advanced Careers

By whiterider27, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hello All!

I'm new to the forums and to Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay in general but am currently GM'ing a game with some mates. We're finishing 'An Eye For An Eye' tonight and are about to start on 'Gathering Storm' but need to draw up new characters before doing so.

I wanted to impress upon the guys that they may want to think about how they would like to develop their character in the future and pick their basic career with that in mind.

My question is this, how does one advance into an 'Advanced Career'. Some of the advanced careers have a prerequisite on the back but other simply don't give any type of guidelines for how to actually become one. Is there a game mechanic I'm missing, or are many of the advanced careers simply left up to how the players and GM decide to roleplay their way into one?

Thanks for any information you guys could provide a fledgling GM!

There is no core rule about restrictions on moving to advanced careers.

The hierarchy is basic - intermediate - advanced - expert (spell casters make this clearer).

In my own campaign, I require someone to be Rank 2 - 3 - 4 to take the careers of those levels but that's a table-rule not a core rule.

Thanks a bunch man, that's basically what I was looking for. On top of that I had actually failed to see the 'Intermediate' tag under the names of the careers so it definitely helps me in creating some type of tiered upgrade path!

I use this as well.

Hey, another question if you all don't mind. What happens when a monster or NPC gains stress or fatigue. Is any stress or fatigue gained simply converted directly to wounds?

I've seen that this is so on some cheat sheets but I cannot find it anywhere in the rules. If anyone has any insight on it I would totally appreciate it. Thanks!

- Tome of Adventure, page 46: Wound Thresholds. According to the core rules, yes, any stress or fatigue is simply converted to wounds.

- The Creature Guide, page 5: Stress & Fatigue versus Creatures. This optional rule allows a GM to remove one Aggresion/Cunning die from an NPC's budget per point of fatigue/stress suffered instead of converting them into normal wounds. When the NPC's A/C budget has been reduced to 0, any additional fatigue or stress absorbs NPC's Expertise budget instead.

Awesome, thanks man.
