Stark Direwolf Deck- New player looking for tips

By koder09, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Hey, just started playing this a few weeks ago with some friends. Big fan of the Starks and have put this deck together. If there are any awesome cards i'm missing that I don't know about, or anything I can do to tweak my deck to improve it please let me know! Pretty much based on a direwolf deck, with robb stark getting grey wind and sansa getting the rest of the wolves to help draw and use shaggydog to lower defense for grey wind.

Curious as to why you're running 2 CS Robbs and a LoW Robb? Personally I think LoW Robb is infinitely better, especially for wolves. With Wolfswood out, Name Stealth all Wolves get +1 Strength, or 2 if you play Crown of Winter. That's my opinion, I personally love my Direwolve deck.

Robb from CS is good when you want to kill a specific char after a successful military battle . not that LoW version is bad but i would take CS version anytime if i am aiming for Military challenges .

But he's 4 Gold for a 2 Strength, which can easily be smoked by a Targ burn. Losing him the turn he comes into play due to Forever Burning Sucks....

Plus LoW Robb has Reknown which is another awesome thing ^^

it is a matter of playstyle friend , i play stark with nymeria and i play grey wind as a normal direwolf :) . my targ friend's deck has a hard time to counter my early heavy military challanges i make with high claims and "winter is coming" events :) .

A normal Targ summer deck would wreck Robb as soon as he tries to attack...if he even made it to the challenge phase.

So you play CS Robb Stark....I guess you don't play much against Martell. Or a GOOD Targ deck. I would not play Core Set Robb Stark is you begged me to. LoW Robb is miles above him in every way.

Also an awesome card that i saw and instantly bought 3 of the chapter packs for. To be a Wolf, it's from Sacred Bonds, it's an awesome card!

Yea, I initially had all 3 Robb stark LoW in my deck, but I was playing mainly baratheon decks and the core set allowed me to kill off important characters of my choice. The renown on the LoW version was actually hurting me with Melisandre's ability to draw off a power and kill the character if they had none left. Robb's strength is usually bolstered by winterfell castle, a few wolves and the crown of winter if i can get it.

Use 3x Feral Pack if possible; you have 2x To Be a Wolf listed so you should have at least one more FP. Bear Island won't work if you have Street of Steel in play so you might want to cut BI in favor of more discount locations - add 3x Narrow Sea and take out two of the Godswoods. I would also suggest going more character-heavy for Stark with some cheap characters like Bolton Refugees, Hungry Mob, etc and take out some of the events and attachments. KL Arya or Cat o' the Canals (or both) would be good additions too.

I prefer LoW Robb as well and also CS Eddard over LoW. He's Deadly, has renown and stalwart. LoW Eddard looks great at first glance but it's pretty easy to stealth past him as I learned the hard way. An extra Catelyn (LoW) is never a bad choice either. It gives you a better chance of drawing her, an opponent can't stealth past her and an extra copy in your hand protects against her being discarded.

Also don't forget with Siege you can claim power for winning a military challenge on defense also. Good defensive cards like Hodor, Roderick Cassel and Guard at Riverrun. Guard at Riverrun helps your draw and Hodor and Roderick are cheap defensive juggernauts.

Some cards that could help your plot deck would be Siege of Riverrun, Respect of the Old Gods and either Retaliation or Battle of Oxcross. Siege is a 4 initiative claim 2 plot and it's penalty doesn't factor much against a Siege deck. Respect of the Old Gods is essentially a 4 gold claim 2 card and is usually an auto include in my stark decks. Retalliation is an AWESOME 4 gold claim 2 card and Battle of Oxcross forces your opponent to play to your strength and try military challenges. I would suggest replacing Marched to the wall, winds of winter and either Valar OR Wildfire assault with any combination of these cards. I assume Winds is in there because of your Crown of Winter but you really don't need it unless you're running a winter deck. Sometimes it'll be great but other times u won't draw the crown and it's worse off than Siege of Riverrun or Respect the Old Gods. You also don't really need 2 reset cards. I would take either valar and wilfire you'll prob just end up hurting yourself with one of them instead. Marched to the wall penalizes you also. Hope this helps and enjoy the game
