Axis zombies alias untertoten or something.

By Poyet, in Dust Tactics

i've Seen card and iam quite disappointed.

They are cool and useful but for me to similar to monkeys. I love monkeys as well. Now i have to choose!

I was expecting something in line of at 43 zombies - slower, cheaper , damage resistant , self sacrificing with big AT BOOOOOOM!!

What you think about them ?

Does Frau TotenMeister ( i prefer TotenTanz btw) changes things ?

In the comics the zombies are not your traditional Zombies so the rules for them are ok.

They both have similar uses. I think Gorillas are better against tank type targets then zombies are (dont have the cards near me). Zombies have damage resilience and 5 health, gorillas are only 3 health. But if Makus joins them they get 6 more health pips.

I cant remember, but gorillas dont have berserk, but they should.

Zombies Have 10 dice vs Armour and Infantry (any) Fast and Damage Resilient and less cover -/hit

Monkeyz have 6 dice vs Armour and Infantry (any) Fast than Charge from Markus full cover

You can do full zombie / full monkeyz army with them but they seems to cover same niche rule/tactic wise.

Wow, I hadn't noticed that. Their stats are almost identical. Same Move, same Armor, same weapons, both have Fast...

I think they have gone a bit too far with these "punching units". I mean we have the Axis Gorillas, Markus, Axis Zombies, Rhino and The Hammers. All of them units that simply run quickly towards its target and pummel them into submission. Not to mention the other units who still have punch as a secondary weapon: Grim Reapers, Tank Busters and Ozz 117. Punching tanks is an interesting twist, but it kinda loses its charm when every other unit is doing it.

In a unit to unit comparision, the Zombies are much better for just 5PT more in my books. Zombies has Damage Resilient, which helps whether or not they are in cover. If they are in Hard Cover they get a Target Save plus Damage Resilient which gives about the same as Hard Cover. 10 attacks versus 6 and 5 health versus 3 are the other advantages.

Seems to fit the standard game company ploy. Look, gorrillas are cool and fun. Two months later, nah you dont want monkeys you need to buy the new boxed set. I think the current advantage to the king kong squad is A) they are available B) their hero is available and C) They can use cover. But Damage Resilient is pretty much cover any way.

But you know what, they look cool so they will stay in my force.

Just got my Nazi Kong Squad in the mail last night. Zombie Redundant of not, my army is about to go APE$#!+ on some Allies! PUNS INTENDED!

The look cool and I think they should be tweaked somewhat. Giving them Berserk would be a nice start LOL.

Personally, even though the Zombies are not true undead, they are somewhat mostly mindless (me after a ten shots of tequila and a case of beer level) and it would have been nice to see some sort of drawback here for that (even as simple as "if attacking an enemy unit and the zombies are adjacent to an friendly unit, zombies may not be able to distinguish "friend" from foe. In such a case, roll a single die and on a hit result the zombies divide their attacks equally between friend and foe."

Nothing major, easy to avoid, but it would make you want to keep your figs apart. Again, just a thought of the head nothing tested, lingered on or really considered.

I would agree on the zombie test roll. Maybe a fail would cause them to charge nearest living model/squad. But if you have the totenmaeister (or however you spell it) you auto pass the test. this would make a great target for enemy snipers.

Yeah, I was rather disappointed with how statistically similar the units are to each other when I saw them. But then again, I was loathing them both being realeased one after another from the beginning because I knew the filled the same niche. I'm just glad the axis are getting some armor 3 units headed their way that won't require a specially scripted hero.
