I'd probably pick up a copy, but I don't have a PC or an xbox. Bleh.

What's REALLY weird is you're posting on an electronic message board... but you don't have a PC... And you post A LOT...

This game was available on steam in a package deal for only $2.69 last week, so I, of course, bought it. It's a FANTASTIC game. I'm loving it.

And he only saves the world so that he can destroy it himself... lengua.gif

I think he means Windows PC, Avi is a Mac user.

I'll trust your review and try the game out (it is only $3 after all)

I saw a couple articles about it on ArsTechnica last week. I was going to check it out anyhow (Xbox Live version)

Uh, does anyone else see the "Publish" button under Lord_Nerdhammer's post?

Yep. Glad to see I'm not the only one here who's gone mad and started hallucinating Publish buttons. Do you guys see the ones on the wall and under your beds too?

I will second the view that Cthulhu Saves the World is hilarious and a lot of fun. Totally worth $3

Gee, thanks Cabello, now I feel even more envious. This was supposed to be the thread were you guys said, "Oh no, Avi, that game's totally a piece of crap, don't feel bad about not being able to play it." ;')

This is off-topic, but if we're talking game recommendations (as we seem to be, kind of): I advocate Amnesia: the Dark Descent. It really gets close enough to Lovecraft to constitute a rip-off, but it's an excellent game. Just don't play it if you get scared easily. Or at all.

Well, we don't have an off-topic thread anymore, so, I don't think anyone will shout about it.

Well, while we are on the subject of Lovecraftian games. Call of Cthulhu - Dark Corners of the Earth was totally awesome, too!! The graphics are a bit outdated, but the experience of the game is excellent. There's nothing like a bunch of deep ones chasing you and having your game screen turn fuzzy and go wavy on you as your character starts to go insane. Then, as a plug for myself, if you try the game out, feel free to take a look at my custom content based on this game.

I especially liked the health system in DCotE. Do I use my first aid kit on my leg so I can run or use it on my arm so I can shoot straight? Or do I just mainline some morphine and hope for the best? That game makes me miss my Xbox.

I thoroughly enjoyed Dark Corners.

As for Amnesia, when you're being chased by the monsters, you have no weapons and must run away. Of course to escape, you have to find a dark place (usually a corner) and face away from them so they don't notice you. Of course when you are in darkness, your sanity starts to errode, which makes the screen all distorted and fuzzy, and makes you mouse movements sluggish. So to evade monsters, you have to degrade your sanity. Amnesia is a messed up game. I had to stop playing. I love it, but I had to stop. But I guess I'm just a weakie. We'll see how long it takes for me to start it up again.

I know how you feel, Brine. I've played many scary games in my time, but Amnesia was just too much. I remember repeatedly thinking that I just couldn't go on, it was too much. I managed to get through it, though, barely. The ending is actually a bit weak, and things aren't explained nearly as much as you want them to be, but it's still worth finishing, if you think you can.

Right now, I'm disgruntled because Amnesia gets free DLC on Steam only, and I have it on OnLive. So if I ever want to see that DLC, I'll have to get a better computer and buy it on Steam.

Alright... If I ever get a system that can play it, and am desperate for a terror fix... I'm intrigued... ;'D

At risk of this sounding like an ad (PLEASE NOTE, GOOD MODERATORS, THAT THIS, IN FACT, NOT AN AD), I recommend OnLive. It's a gaming server like Steam, and it's specifically designed to run games on computers that otherwise could not handle them. Amnesia is rather picky when it comes to system requirements, but OnLive largely circumvents that. The server is free, but the games, of course, are not. Also, like I said, if you don't have it on Steam, you can't get the free DLC and short stories (not even for money, they're just not available anywhere else).
