Action Card availability

By Zorren, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hello,

I've recently taken the plunge and bought the core set, and a few expansions including the Adventurer's Toolkit. The question I have is although there are several (4 if you include the toolkit) cards of the basic action types, there is only one of all the other cards. Is it first come first served? If someone takes rapid fire for example, does that prohibit anyone else in the party from having it? Would seem odd that only 1 character can have the ability, especially if you find an action card that is particularly useful and other players want a sice of the action. Any guidance appreciated.

The Basic Action reference sheet is your friend and located here on FFG's website :

Check the Resources section at the bottom of the following page: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=93&esem=4

You can also use the Action Worksheet ( located at the above link as well ) for playing "lite" or for situations where players have slap fights over who gets Rapid Shot ( we've actually had fun varying player abilities and not duplicating thus far because it's not d20 where every fighter character needs Power Attack to succeed in life ).

You can (and should i.m.o) pick up Strange Eons and the Liber Fanatica 7 Plug-in for creating custom cards (or making copies of cards for your own use of course) . When you make custom cards/duplicates/whatever you can grab a deck of playing cards (or if you eroneously bought the Player/GM vaults you now own superfluous copies of cards to use as dummies) and glue the custom card printouts/blank action worksheet cutouts to them. Thus far we haven't had the game experience ruined by customized cards or card information jotted down elsewhere, but your mileage may vary).

Thanks for the excellent (and quick) response. I know what my players are like, if they see an action that seems to work, they will all want it. Will have a look at the links you provided and if need be buy some glue!

dunno if you have the GM Toolkit, but under the optional rules it states:

...some groups may wish to view the card mix for action cards and talents as limited, discrete options – meaning that other than the basic actions all characters are entitled to, if one member of the party acquires a specific action card or talent, none of the other party members can acquire the same ability.
... this implies that the default rule is that there is no limitation.
personally i use this optional rule as it provides diversity. last thing i want to see is a party of clones, pulling out the kill all bad guys action card over and over.

I agree with New Zombie, my players actually have mentioned on numerous occations that it is more fun to be unique and have their "own thing" when it comes to action cards, diversity is fun (in our oppinion) and it makes combat less repetative. In the beginning, when all of the characters only had melee strike and ranged shot to attack with combat was kind of boring as they all did the same thing over and over but now they all have their actions and combat has become so much more fun (as most action cards "do" different things and have a certain focus).

But Zorren, you know your players best and if they (and you) have more fun if everyone can buy the actions then you should really make replicas of the cards that seem popular.
