Thomas F Malone is insane!

By DeFrank, in CoC Rules Discussion

Thomas F. Malone reads:

" Response: After resolving a story to which Thomas F. Malone is committed, choose and destroy an opponent's Villanous or Cultisit character that was committed to that story. "
If he is driven insane during the icon struggles, then through an action's effect after the story resolves , is restored ( Arkham Asylum ), may he use his power before uncommitting to that story? Or has the opportunity past since he had no text on his card until after the story was resolved.
I've browsed the FAQ a few times but still don't understand how long "after is" If it is for the duration of that phase then the above example should work, otherwise it would not.
I am thinking this is not possible... in which case the Arkham Asylum card is becoming less and less useful with every question I ask. :)

I think you understand it correctly. Further, when a character goes insane, it automatically uncommits from the story. So TFM would not be there at the end anyway.

The key is the phrase "is committed". Being previously committed doesn't meet the criteria. Since going insane un-commits him, it only works if you can restore him to sanity *AND* re-commit him to the story before the end of the resolution (which is when the trigger is checked). if he's there at the moment resolution is done then his ability works, no matter whether he was there for any of the rest of the story or not.
