I was talked into buying a can of ARMY PAINTER QUICKSHADE. I dipped my Axis units, then shook the excess off. I painted them as they are on the cards, so I am a little afraid this stuff is going to darken them too much. So far they appear a dirty. I was told to purchase the middle shade, not the dark, and not the light. I am not sure I am going to be happy with the results.

Has anyone had any luck with this stuff? I feel I would have been better off just hand inking and shading.

If you are going to use it the middle shade is definantly the way to go (the dark is way to dark and the light shade really only works on items like skelectons). Alot of the dirty look will disappear as it dries but not all. I still prefer to paint with washes and such but if you are in a rush it is the way to go.

yeah you need to paint a little lighter sometimes if your painting dark colors but in general ive had few problems and it can speed up painting large numbers of models

I've used it plenty of time on various armies It doesn't seem to darken the model but does leave it in a high gloss finish. I would't use it on Dust figures though as there's not really enough models to bother about dipping them.

After the stuff dries, I am going to highlight and paint in more details, put on the decals, then spray them with a flat matte finish.

I think the models are pretty cool! At least they dont break apart when you drop them like some medal ones I know.

Ok, so they are dried for 24 hours now. Some of them have spots of this dip on them. Is it ok to paint over this before I matte them?

You gonna show us some pics?

As long as the "spots" are in the shadow areas it should be fine. You can now go back with your base coat and paint over any areas that need to be highlighted. Pics are always helpful.

I will post pics when I get the decals on and flat spray them. I think they look ok, good enough for tabletop.
