Healing in Anima

By Chromatism, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Hey everyone.

Its been a while since I've really been around on the forums, but I have a somewhat noobish question that's been bugging me for a short while. I have yet to run a campaign in Anima, though with my group beginning to breathe down my neck about it (which is a good thing, honest!) I could just do with a small amount of input revolving around the subject of healing.

After having read most of the way through the Rulebook several times it seems to me that healing is... somewhat difficult. Now don't get me wrong! That just makes things more tense and gritty which suits me just fine. But when it comes to criticals and limbs being severed, I'm simply getting flashes back to the Claymore Anime.

As it stands I can't find much in the way of supernatural healing that could repair such damage, apart from one spell in the... I think the Essence section? That effectively increases the regeneration rate of a character to the degree that holding the severed limb against the stump will allow a character's body to reincorporate the appendage. The only downside is this demands a caster with an extremely high Intelligence to pull off, unless I'm reading it incorrectly?

Any advice on this issue, and how to handle healing in general, would be much appreciated.

Healing is tough in Anima, that's true. With supernatural abilities you can find healing in the Light, Creation, and Essence books as well as one in free access I think. Psychics can boost their own regneration rate and can apply that to others using another power in conjunction. The medicine secondary ability can be used to heal some damage, but never all, the same is true with Ki using the Ki Healing ability.

I see.

So really it falls to player choice whether they want to continue with a somewhat crippled character, or it could be a quest in itself to find someone, or something, with the ability to help them retrieve their lost appendage... or indeed find a replacement. That is, if its not available at the time in the party.

That does make sense. Thanks for the reply :)

Its a Dark Fantasy game, they seem to have elevated technology and the capacity to deal damage above all other things.

If your campaign is a supernatural one, then don't forget the Children of Nature (people who have Elan with Rafael can heal at will).
