The First Avenger

By Peacekeeper_b, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Watched Captain America: The First Avenger last night, and overall must say not only is it a good movie and not only is it a good Captain America movie, but it is also a pretty **** good Dust movie.

Evil Nazi scientist discovers new energy form that he uses to create super weapons. Allies counter with special crack commando team led by a genetically engineered super soldier created from a process "lifted" from the germans. Laser guns, flame throwers, huge tanks, heli-rockets, super bombers and more. All it was missing was some zombies and some walkers. I would say it was missing jet-packs but it was directed by the guy who did the Rocketeer so close enough. Would even say it was missing talking apes, but it did have a preview for Rise of the Planet of the Apes before it started.

Will be redesigning my Axis forces to emulate Hydra!

The timing of me getting into Dust and Cpt America coming out could not have better timed. I just have not seen the movie yet, but every trailer makes me want to play dust.

The final assault just felt like a dust battle (minus walkers). Makes me want to do my Axis up in a pseudo-Hydra rip off/tribute fashion.

Ya I just saw the movie too and all I could think about was how I wanted to paint my laser squad w/ those blue lasers! Really good flick and a great inspiration!

Still have not gotten a chance to see the movie yet but the trailer looked great.

Here's a link to my cap mod and some others (still working on a proper card):

The problem is that he's too much of a hero...

After watching the movie and realizing it pretty much takes place in the same universe as Dust, a friend of mine got really excited and demanded that I made cards for Captain America and Red Skull. He plans on buying some minis and using them in our Dust sessions occasionally.

Well, this is what I came up with for cap (haven't given the point cost much thought yet):

I thought all heroes had to be able to blow up tanks nowdays :P Card looks pretty good. Film is fantastic, it's one of the few films that I wanted to go staight back in and watch again.

Dont forget Cap on a bike (waker style stats, but faster) and his explosives.

I think he should also have the Command skill (allowing him to join a command squad)

And here's a first take on the Red Skull. Again not yet giving much thought to the point cost.

Red Skull is an Ally?

AAAAACCCKKK!! preocupado.gif

EDIT: Fixed it.

I'm considering giving him the Command skill, and maybe giving it to the Captain as well.

Nice cards man! Saw the movie yesterday, maybe I'm gonna use them some day :)

Btw: Which lettertype (font) are you using?

Only thing I didn't like about the movie was that his original shield was a shield shape not a disc. He didn't get that until unthawed.

Impact for the name, Prestige Elite for the stats.

I'm pretty sure he had the round shield for most of the film in WW2. Didn't he redesign his whole outfit after the publicity stint? To engrossed to take much notice of details :)

Ahem.... This is one area where I am an expert. Been reading Captain America since I was 7 years old and that is almost 3 decades now.

Indeed Cap's first shield was the triangle shield. In Captain America Comics #1. March 1941. However, it was ruled too similar to the Chest Device of another patriotic super hero of the time (The Shield oddly enough) and instead of facing a lawsuit, Timely (Marvel's old name in the 30s and 40s) had Cap's shield redesigned to the more well known disc shield.

The happened in Captain America Comics #2, also in 1941.

He has used the disc sheild since. (occasionally using a replica of the disc, for a while re using the original triangle shield, and for a short time "shudder" a photon shield). The movie pays homage to the triangle shield by having Cap use it in the first half of the movie and getting the Vibranium shield in the second half.

Actually, the shield is a vibranium/adamantium alloy, but Marvel leased the word Adamantium out with the X-Men (and Wolverine) to Fox Studios so they cant use that word/concept in Marvel Studios films until the Fox contract expires.

He was frozen and unthawed with the shield in main marvel continuity, nut Ultimate Captain America (from the Ultimate Comics line) got his disc shield after unthawing. So it depends on what line you are following.

Traditional/True continuity Cap has disc shield in 1941.

Thanks alot Loophole Master!

Are your cards available for down load anywhere? I would like to get a copy. I just got Cap and Red Skull minis to convert and would like the cards.

Thanks

Well, they are available for download right here. Just save those images and print them. Though I'm still tweaking the stats...

And his squad as a unit? That would be great.

But I find mandatory to add the British miss... Now I know I would give her "Command"...
