I'm curious. How would you roleplay Barbaroth other than running around screaming about blood and skulls?
Roleplaying the Berzerker?
He could be more 'interested' in battle and killing but would still have a personaility. Perhaps looking to cause the most amount of death. (so working with people to kill even moar people!)
He could also be someone who takes pride in his skill, savouring the blood and death for Khorne and using violence and intimidation to show your power over others - you don't have to be Slaanesh to be a sadist.
Well...
I would play him as a very calm and quiet person. But not a recluse. More like "a man of few words". Never arguing, never bickering. And it was written, "following orders". That is, till the point comes up where battle is at hand. As soon as some-one not part of the group is foolish enough to brandish a weapon or draw a gun then hand reaches for the chain-axe which begins to roar. If the first strike has already done the deed, the head is severed next, held high above in the air as "Skulls for his throne!" is yelled and the blood is allowed to drip on the face.
If the situation allows for a charge, the classic "blood for the blood god!" will be shouted.
Whenever possible, I would make Barbaroth reach for his weapons to allow the "Leader" of the group to order him to stay down. Always making it a tense moment for the group: will Barbaroth obey the command or go for the kill? Not a thing of dice (mainly) but a thing of roleplaying, allowing the "Leader" (or other pc) to play out their characters coaxing or commanding the Spacemarine into waiting just a little long.
Having a look at Johnny Depp in the muscial-version of "Sweeny Todd" might be inspirational. Just tune down the melodramatic nature of the Barber and at the desire to serve Khorne and the lust for battle.

Possibly the coolest idea ever.
There's a hole in the sky like a great black pit/And it's filled with traitors from when Horus split/And the daemons of the warp inhabit it/And it goes by the name of "the Eye of Terror".
Or possibly...
There was a berzerker and his knife/And he was beautiful/A khorne berzerker and his knife/They said that battle was his life/And he was beautiful/And he was violent/And he was ... fren-zied.
I could do this all day but I should probably stop now.
He really is an awesome example of a Khorne cultist
Planning is small-time.
If I play a berzerker, my inspiration will be Kharn.
If he dies... Eh.

So you would kill the other PC's?
Our Babaroth gave the appearance of a calm, quiet, introspective Astartes. He was willing to work with the team, but hardly ever said a word - he only followed. Nina Black considered him to be quite the simpleton.
Imagine their surprise when after having donned his gear; he turned around, his presence seemingly filling the whole room (and giving them the feeling of impending doom) while he yelled: I am Babaroth, Champion of Khorne, TAKE ME TO THE SLAUGHTER OR YIELD YOUR SKULLS TO ME!
It took a silver-tongue Nina to persuade him to help them, in return for more skulls of course.
The player playing Babaroth would often change between a muttering/frothing/yelling approach and a more sensible martially/objective minded one.
I think he nailed it really well.

That is totally awesome.

I rarely, if ever, say this to anyone, but this is the best. post. ever.

Indeed
Have a look in the Hammer of Daemons novel. Plenty of Khornates who are not mindless killing machines. Kharn is a psychopath, he is the very image of a follower of Khorne who has lost everything that he used to be only to be filled with a mindless desire for slaughter. A Kharn copy would IMO be very boring to play for a campaign unless you start out fairly "normal", after all Kharn was somewhat of a voice of reason on the World Eaters legion before the Heresy.

Even Kharn has some depth to him - if you can find I copy, I suggest reading the short story featuring Kharn (I forget the title) that was in White Dwarf 230 or 231. It depicts Kharn facing off against the hated followers of Slaanesh, and eventually confronting a bound daemon that tries to tempt him. He does consider it briefly - musing that he is already known as the Betrayer, afterall... then angrily remembers that while he's known as the Betrayer, all he's done is be more loyal to Khorne's principles than the weaklings around him, by slaying those incapable of standing and fighting.
Well, I don't see a huge depthness in that.
The fun is "yes I'm random but I still have some kind of twisted sense of honour, and I'm not going to let that fade away".
Not that much depth, but much more than your usual mindless berserker.

It's still more than just randomly waving an axe around and killing everything in reach for no apparent reason.

Well, most real world berserker were certainly more or less loving fathers in their civilian life. They just started becoming frothing mad-men when combat ensued, mostly through injesting some mushrooms or whatever beforehand. It is not that they were stereotypical berserkers in every part of their life (i.e .when they go fishing, hunting, drinking, doing the dishes, loving their wife etc.).

You Sir sound like a fantasy dwarf zerker...
I would beleive that a real Khornite BERZERKER wuld always want to rip heads of... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! (Remember all bezreker know that it could be their blodd as much as their enemies... - Kharn the Betrayer)

Somehow I have this mental image now of a man standing at the sink, doing dishes and screaming "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!" while trying to scrub off stubborn caked-on lasagna remnants.

and doing so as he puts on that classic 1950 working husband hat (while still being a world eater) and saying it to his wife
"BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD"

Khorne cares not from where the blood flows. So long as it flows...

You horrible man! I have a cracked rib and you just made me laugh so hard that I think I now need to take some codeine and go have a lie-down!
Is this the method that Slaanesh cultists use to corrupt Khornate ones?
