"Endlessly Breeding" Rumor and "Endless" Ability Question

By xris, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

On the Endlessly Breeding Mythos rumor card (from the BGotW expansion), it states (under Pass ):-
"Starting with the first player, each player chooses a monster in play and takes it as a monster trophy (ignoring Endless )."

Does this mean
(i) You may ignore the Endless special ability and can in fact take an Endless monster as a trophy?
or
(ii) Ignore Endless monsters when choosing a monster?

I assume the answer is (ii) but if so, why in the world does it even have "ignoring Endless" on the card, it would be clear if this was just left off. If it said "ignore Endless monsters" or "ignore the Endless ability" then it would be clear but the way it is worded currently seems confusing to me.

I'd say it's almost definitely (i). The only reason it might not be one is if FFG was sloppy with its wording. It's just a shorter way of saying ignoring the endless ability. In Arkham Jargon, it's not necessary to state the ability, we already know that it's the ability.

Here's an example of it being said in longhand, but it's not really necessary to word it this way.

However, you will see that ignore endless means you can claim an endless monster as a trophy.

And by experience, we all know how true this is, FFG are never sloppy, inconstant or confusing with their rules! gui%C3%B1o.gif

OK, thanks. It is good to see an actual example of the Endless ability being ignored.

Even so, I could easily see Petrifying Solution as an example as to why in the case of Endless Breeding it doesn't apply. The fact they used different terminology implies they meant something different. If they used "ignores the .. Endless special abilities" on one card then they should have used it on Endless Breeding .

Heh... Well... Yeah... But you can use that argument with *any* card essentially ;'D (sloppy wording I mean).

Re: different terminology, I wouldn't assume that A) the games are designed by the same people, or B) that as much care as we might like is put into consistent wording. You can make this argument if you want, and even ask for an official clarification, but I think the correct way of playing it is that you can claim endless monsters as trophies. I'd be willing to bet on it. But, yeah, it's impossible to be sure about anything really ;'D

FFG is very imperfectly consistent with its phraseology, believe me, I wish it was more reliable about these sorts of things... I mean, it couldn't even use location consistently. In other words, I don't think the non-identical phrasing is significant.
