Walker magnetization issue

By zuggzugg, in Dust Tactics

snipped from my bgg post..

I've just recently magnetized my axis walkers. While they do keep them from breaking this way, they just don't feel as sturdy. The other issue I'm having is that the Claw arm for the one mech is so heavy that after magnetizing it, it just slumps down to the side. I'm using 1/8 x 1/16 magnets, same used in every magnetization tutorial I've seen.

I was wondering if maybe for that gun I could try a heavier magnet? The 1/8" ones fit perfectly tho so I'm not sure of the alternatives. This is also raising questions for the other mechs I do not have yet, some of them look like the arms might weigh to much to actually be poseable? Instead, they weight will just cause them to slump down.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

Thanks!

These are the ones I've got. Using any magnet larger than 1/8 inch on these arms just doesn't look like it will fit/align well. The arm holes are 1/8 and fit the magnets perfectly. The mechs are much smaller than those bigger monsters that would need bigger magnets, no?

I think I'm going to try the 3/16" x 1/8" and the 1/8" x 1/8" ones.

...also going to try getting them 1/8 thick instead of 1/16. maybe being thicker might be stronger?

Anyone else have suggestions?

I had problems with that as well. I put small magnets in the joints and the arm is hanging down a bit. I documented this in a Video, which You can watch here:

If You can get some stronger Magnets in there, maybe without drilling holes, I would definitely recommend that!

C heers!
