Newbie Power Challenge Question(s)

By tcabril, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I am new to the Living Card Game - A Game of Thrones and me an my buddy are woking through the rules using the base game.

We do have a couple of questions regarding Power Challenges, however...

1) If I win a Power Challenge against my opponent - and he does not have any power counters - what happens?

2) If you don't get any power counters (from question #1 above) then how do you gain power counters?

So far this seems to be a fun and interesting game and very straightforward its just gaining and power counters is a tad confusing.

Thanks

Todd

As far as my rather newish understanding goes you cant take power that isnt there, however if the challenge is unopposed then you claim one power regardless (its not related to your claim though so its one, and one only).

That said im probably as new to the game as you so i would wait for the more experienced people to make sure i haven't been doing it wrong as well.

If that is the only thing you find confusing then you have a great future as a tournament organizer ahead of you ;)

1) It's really simple. The rules say to move a power token from the defenders house card to the attackers. If there's no power there, it cannot be moved.

2) There's a variety of ways in which you will earn power tokens during the game. There's the power for unopposed challenges, as Underworld40k mentioned. And there's whole array of card effects that will let you claim power for your house. There's also power that ends up on characters (again, through card effects, or through the Renown mechanic) and even locations. Those, of course, cannot usually be touched by the claim of a power challenge, because they are not on the house card.

Hope that helped.

is a power on that person's House card for them to steal with their own power challenge later in the phase.

The other way people can get power on their House card in the first round (that, oddly, no one has mentioned yet) is this little thing called...winning Dominance?
