Fisrt time playing Miskatonic and New Pharaoh together

Avi and I have played a Skype game before. That took a long time because of logistics. But wrangling in Dam would be problems, for a few reasons:

  • He plays his AOs/heralds/whatever else in a very strict order, and so may not be up for playing anything out of order.
  • I don't think he'd try Kingsport, even if it was our copies.
  • Our takes on house rules and custom components vary greatly.
  • He's in Finland. Even considering the current US daylight savings time when it's in our favor, he's six hours ahead of me, and I'm three ahead of Avi. If Dam didn't mind wrapping up at midnight then Avi would need to get in the game at 11am.

Though you're right. Our three playstyles will vary by a lot and would be an event worth watching in and of itself. It's a shame/relief that we wouldn't be able to go at each others' throats.

We could take out Kingsport. He could take his stick out of his... Aherm, rigidity of order. We could not use house rules, and possibly not even custom components (although I do enjoy them, perhaps not in a Dam game, ****!) The time differences aren't that big an issue on the weekend. Problems solved! ::Laughter:: honestly, I think to win we'd have to match Dam's playing style, I don't think he'd be willing to match ours ;'D

While we can't go at each other's throats, we can scream a lot, and that's fun too ;'D

I think what I really need to do is design a jpeg image of the maps for easy print outs, and that'd make the skype game flow probably half an hour to an hour smoother.

That actually would kind of be a fun thing to try someday... If Dam's interested. Maybe Julia too. I have no idea how to set it up so the game could be watched though.

::Laughter:: okay, well, one of these years, if the tech comes out, and Dam agrees ;'D

Jgt, would you be interested as well?

...to play with DAM? Would he tolerate a "fluff piece" like me in a game?

I'm absolutely interested. If only to be there to witness such an event.

I just realized that I am someone. Litecam and Oovoo might be the programs we need. Anyone else have suggestions? I just msged Dam to see if he'd be willing to participate ;'D so if he says no, don't blame me, blame him, say, "Dam Dam Dam, I mean, ****!" This might also work. http://pcsplace.com/tutorial/record-im-skype-yahoo-msn-video-chat-web-cam-call-conference-how-to/ or google record a webcam conference. Guh... I guess this means I'm going to have to photoshop those **** print outs, aren't I ;.(

Sorry to give you homework, ol' boy, but it really is for the game...

Sorry guys (and gal), I don't have any equipment for doing video/voicechat on my comp. Assuming one would need headphones/mic for the latter of course.

It's all right, Dam. My equipment is so rudimentary that I have to constantly replace the hamster wheel.

I'm still living in a pre-KH era partido_risa.gif .

Never really found any need for a webcam or a mic so never bothered to get either.

Can I assume you have all heard of the VASSAL engine for boardgaming online? If you haven't, the Arkham Horror module on there is pretty large and comprehensive, although I don't think they would have the latest expansions (cannot confirm latest version as currently at work).

I heartily recommend giving it a looksee.

When dinosaurs (with tentacles) roamed the earth. All hail Cthulhusaurus Rex!

Thanks. We would not have been using Misk U. anyway, in all likelihood (since not all of us have it). Hmmm... Does it run on macintosh (mac user here)? Ooo... It does.

Tibs, you want to check out how this thing works this weekend? Not a game, just a few turns so we can see what it's like?

How much would it cost for us to chip in and buy him a microphone? Aren't they like ten bucks now?

What? How much would it cost for us to chip in and buy him a copy of Kingsport Horror? Marvelous idea! gui%C3%B1o.gif

(Look, all we need to do is get it into his place. The mind goblins will take care of the rest!) demonio.gif

Hah. He already declined that offer when you made it. No, I was referring to a microphone, Mr. Selective Hearing ;'D

Btw, I tried out Vassal, it's really good for what we're intending to do, although you'll need to fiddle around with it for maybe about half an hour to an hour to learn how to use it (although I could probably explain it over voice chat to make that faster, still, it'd probably be better if you guys learnt how it worked in advance).

Let's see... I should be getting Miskatonic and Dark Pharaoh tomorrow, and expect to have people over to try both. Sunday is Tiffany's birthday. I don't recall what we're doing Saturday so I may or may not be on Skype.

The one thing I can guarantee is that my large gaming table and my webcam are on opposite end of the apartment, so I'd have to get creative for some kind of game (that I can see at least).

This whole prospect is just getting funnier the more I think about it. Well, lastly, it should be mentioned that the last time I checked, Skype couldn't do video feeds for more than two people at a time, so there's that.

Wellll, I didn't really want to start a game, I just wanted us to see how vassal worked with more than one person. It actually shouldn't be that big a deal (it seems fairly simple, well, if an hour to learn means simple).

We don't need video feeds, just audio feeds.

Oovoo has a free one month trial period that allows six audio feeds ;'D

edit: this might also work http://www.freenet.com/ haven't looked into it yet to check if it's legit.

Wait until you see Vassal. It's very cool. It's obviously not nearly as good as having a board in front of you, but it's considerably better than the system I had to use last time ;'D

edit: Happy Early Birthday Tiffany! Speaking of Birthdays, I'm nearing my 3000th post ;'D I feel like I should get an extra birthday when I get there.

My next e-mail will be [email protected]

But anyway, even my webcam is k.o. That's not good. Once Tibs said he was running a play-by-email game. Did it worked?

And what about this to compare different gaming styles. Tibs (or Avi or who else) set-up the game. Choses the AO, the Herald, the Investigators and so on. Then everyone plays his own game, and posts the strategies adopted during each turn. The Mythos sequence will be the same for everyone. As soon as everyone resolves turn one, the new Mythos is read and we go on. We should be able to satisfy the original request (even if playing all together will be delghtful. Sometimes I dream of catching a plane to the US just to play with you. With Dam as well, but we're almost neighboor, with no ocean between our countries, just 3000 km or something similar)

Again, you won't need a webcam. Just a microphone. Those are really cheap (in the US you can get one for 2-10 bucks).

I wouldn't want to play a game of Arkham by email... Waaaay too slow. I also wouldn't really want to do turn reports for an entire game. What a nightmare. As if a game of Arkham isn't already long enough ;'D

Nerdvana... That's a good word.

Avi_dreader said:

::laughter:: it comes from The Big Bang Theory (season 2 maybe)

and ok, I think I can afford the cost of a microphone!

The email game ended long ago. We got through one or two turns and then one guy stopped responding so I kind of got bored with it.

I'd be willing to try it again with people who would be more involved.
