A question regarding Stealth

By ktei2008, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Scenairo:

Opponent declares 2 attackers, and one of them is Stealth. So that Stealth attacker declares one of my characters that cannot defend. When it's my turn to declare defenders, I first kneel Shaggydog (KoW) and Grey Wind (KoW) to kill that Stealth character immediately. At this point, my question comes up: Since the Stealth attacker has been dead, does his Stealth still work to prevent one of my characters to defend?

Thank you for yourh help guys.

The short answer is that killing a character with Stealth doesn't "undo" the stealth. However, what effect it has on the game depends on when you use the wolves. When you're dealing with a challenge, you are looking at the following basic "steps:"

  1. Attacker announces type of challenge and kneels attacking characters
  2. Player Actions
  3. Attacker assigns stealth/defender kneels defending characters
  4. Player Actions
  5. Resolve Challenge

Following those steps, you can see that you could use Shaggydog and Grey Wind in either #2 or #4. If you use them in #2, the stealth character would be dead and gone before stealth was ever assigned in the first place, so no defenders would be bypassed. But if you use them in #4, it wouldn't matter because you cannot go backwards to #3 and declare more defenders, anyway.

It sounds, from your description, that maybe the attacking player is jumping the gun and assigning stealth to defenders as the last thing in #1 instead of the first thing in #3?

Thank you very much Ktom. This is really helpful. I just realized we didn't pay attention carefully to the action window that: there is an action window in between step 1 and step 3. We always play like this: player declares attackers and stealth together... I wanted to ask that if I can kill the Stealth character before he 'stealth' me, and if this is the case then I am able to do that then.
