I know this is a painting forum thread, but my issue is bent weapons. Anyone have issues with Dust Tactics figures arriving with slightly curved/ben weapons? How do you handle it? Ive tried to bend them back, but it doesnt always work.
Models: Bent Weapons
This is a two-step process.
First get a bowl of ice water and a hair dryer.
Blow the figure with the hair dryer on medium-high until it is soft and pliable, about 6 seconds or less.
Bend the weapon the way you want it, and plunge it in the ice water. I usually let it sit there til the next one.
Sometimes you will have to bend the arm too to get the weapon straight. Same process. Fiddle around with it.
And yes, all my figures need to be reposition/straightened, except Laser Grenadiers.
I hat to fix most of the weapons from my core set (propably because the figures were all packed in these tiny zipper bags). In the troop-boxes I hat to reposition approx. 1-2 per box.
Instead of a hairdryer I am using boiling water:
- boiling water in a shot glass
- put the bent part in the water for a few seconds (time depends on the size of the bent part)
- remove it from the water and hold it in the wanted position until it is cool again (or hold it in cold water)
You can even reposition legs and arms.
But I still don't know if the plastic has a memory effect. Bent weapons seem to stay in the new position, with whole arms I am not sure (especially the pistol-arm from Ms. von Thaler seems to be stubborn).
kind regards,
Ghrik
Yeah, it seems the thicker pieces have quite a bit of memory. I fixed some leaning figures, but after a couple of weeks they seem to have almost returned to their original position.
Yeah I've had a few bent guns too, but I was lazy and left them as is. My bends aren't too bad and it looks good enough to me for the most part. My plan though was if I did get a bad one I'd stick the piece in boiling water for a few seconds to bed it back. I don't have a hair dryer
I've had to do the boiling water thing for resin models before, mostly tank cannons from Forge World since they love to cast stuff as poorly as possible.
Go on my blog it's under the hobby page there is a link on how to do it.
