How to magnetize your allied walker turrets

By Necross, in Dust Tactics

So, it kinda bugs me how the Allied walkers (at least the ones in the starter set) have turrets that just fall off if you breathe next to them. So I figured I'd use some magnets to make them stay on.. here's how I did it :)

I got a little piece of sheet metal, this is the kind of metal they use for air conditioning duct work, you can get it real cheap at Home Depot. You'll also need a pair of metal cutting shears and a needle-nose plyers, and some super glue and some zip kicker if you're impatient like me. And you'll need some magnets. I got mine from http://www.amazing-magnets.com . The ones I ended up using aren't in this pic since I wanted to use bigger ones that I had laying around. The ones I used were about 5mm across and 1.5mm thick.

Cut the metal into 4 strips (for 2 walkers). One strip is 1.5 inches long that's for the hull part of the walker and the other is 1 inch long that goes in the turret. Make em about a quarter to a half inch wide, so you can get them in the hole but they'll be wide enough for the magnet.

Put 2 little drops of glue on either end of your strip

Grab it by the sides with your needle nose plyers and put it inside the hole. I lifted the whole model up in the air hanging from the strip of metal and let it hang for a couple minutes till it started to set. Do the same thing for the turret.

Let the glue set for a few more minutes, or you can spray it with some Zip kicker to get it to harden right away, but this tends to make the bond not as strong.

Stick your magnet in the middle of the strip on the walker. You can glue it down if you like, but I just left it as is for now.

Now just stick your turret on and that's it :) you can turn it upside down, knock it over, or more importantly you can spin it to aim at bad guys and make pew pew sounds without it falling off :)

Awesome, very nicely done.

I've ben trying to get my mate to do this for ever, the things are always falling apart. Question is, why didn't they make a locking turret ring like you find on other kits? Also, do you not find that you roll better dice when when you"grrrrrr" the turret as you aim it towards you target and then "pew, pew" them? happy.gif

OF COURSE! How can you even attempt to destroy your enemy if you don't whirr your turret towards it (and even pivot the whole head of the walker downward if it's a point-blank shot)??!!

Yea I later and did that too with mine. But I also have mine guns magnetized to interchange each on on my blog. I glued a bolt to the bottom of part of my walker so I wouldnt need another magnet.
