Booster Draft Rules

By Masi, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hi.

Where can I find the AGoT Booster Draft Rules? I know with the new format there“s no Booster Draft, but I have some boosters and I want the rules so I can organize a tourney.

(I have some booster drafts packs also, so I only need the rules...xD)

Thanks

I dont' know if they are still available, but I wil post what I can remember (we still draft around here as well):

Official drafts were 4 packs, though I know many groups (like ours) draft five packs. Generally 2 packs are from a Base Set (Five Kings, Iron Throne, Winter, Valyrain, Ice and Fire or Westeros) and the other 2 (or 3) from the subsets. In official 4-pack drafting, the 2 packs were from the same set.

The draft packs that FFG released about the time of Crown of Suns provided five plots -- Alliance, Counting Coppers, Filty Accusations, Wildfire Assault and Taxation -- plus a number of reducer locations. The full contents can be found here: http://tzumainn.com/agot/cards/set.php?set=DR These were used exclusivelt before FFG came out with a supplemental draft pack during ITE days. Sadly, I can't find a listing of the cards anywhere. They included 3 copies of each of the dual house seas, one each of the reducer characters from ITE, 3 each of the Gold and Sea Road, 1 Fallow FIelds, 1 God's Eye, 3 crossroads perhaps and two plots -- On Raven's Wings and Fortiied Position. With the SDPs you only used the plots from the original draft packs. All draft pack cards were fixed; players didn't draft them (think of them as Land cards in Magic, i guess).

When drafting, each round you alternate between drafting a card and passing left or right, starting to the left first round. I have found that when drafting 2 packs of the same set you always want to make sure the passing alternates between the two (once left, once right). This isn't so much a problem when drafting four packs, but when you hit five it can be. For example, we like to draft 5 packs -- 2 Five Kings and 1 each of the ITE block sets. We draft, in order, FIve Kings (left), Iron Throne (right), House of Throns (left) Five Kings (right) and House of Talons (left). It breaks up the ITE, but both 5KE packs do not draft the same direction.

Minimum deck size in a draft is 40 cards, Plot decks are 5, or 7 if using the Supplemental Pack (the better way to go, all around). You may choose to run two houses. You need 20 power instead of 15 to win, can play either House without gold penalties and can play House X only events from the two houses. You still have to pick a primary house, for cards that allow you to search for an "in-house" character, however. There is no limit to the number of copies of a card you can have in your deck.

Hope this helps.

Ok, thanks!

Yes, this helps a lot, but I only have AHoTh boosters, so I suppose the right number will be 5 (I will try to find some base set boosters...)

I'd highly recommend finding some base set -- any base set -- boosters, ITE probably being the best if you have Thorns. Those two sets work really well off each other. And a piece of draft advice -- Greyjoy's Driftwood Cudgel and the Stark weapon attachment (...kill a 2 STR character) are money in Thorns drafts.

Thanks! That is useful to have it printed..
