Fireball spell, Whell of Fate

By torgock2, in Talisman

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question about the Knight. There was a couple of really good suggestions. Hope you guys can help me with a couple more questions.

FIREBALL: Does the fireball spell take place in Addition to normal combat? For example, could someone cast a fireball before a battle and then (after the effects of the fireball are determined) engage in battle as normal or does battle only take place if the victim of the fireball does not lose a life? Or does the fireball replace the battle all together?

WHEEL OF FATE: If you roll on the wheel of fate and you lose all your fate tokens then you cant reroll the dice (because you have no more fate tokens). Is this how the wheel of fate works. This came up in a game i played on the weekend. I'm of the mind that you cant reroll but I'd like to hear what other people think.

Fireball: In addition. All spell effects etc are taken into consideration for that combat. You can then attack again.

Wheel of fate: Technically I think you can. The rules states immeditaley after rolling the dice you can use fate, so this would be before the effects on the card tooke place.

I think you can use fate as normal. You can use one fate to re-roll the die for the wheel of fate.

Fireball is played in addition to combat. By the way, you have to cast the Fireball AND attack in normal combat. The Spell gives you the opportunity to take two Lives from a Character or to take 1 Life (last) or kill an Enemy before you come to combat. Fireball replaces combat only if you kill the Enemy/Character with it.

This is known problem, though it hasn't been discussed very much in the forums. Technically you are able to use Fate to re-roll the die, even if the first outcome is "lose all Fate".

I decided to make a house rule and deny the chance of using Fate to keep Fate, but I did this just because I felt a strong contraddiction. If you have to lose an Object, a Spell or anything else, you can't use the resource you're losing in order to prevent the loss. This never happens: you aren't able to Turn into Gold an Object that a Character wants to steal from you and you can't cast a Spell that you were instructed to lose. You can use other means (other Objects, Spells, Special Abilites, Fate), but not use what you are losing to prevent the loss. In my games "lose all Fate" cannot be avoided by means of Fate.

This is another example of how Fate really isn't Fate ... if it can be used to gain more fate through pure luck. Others are correct by the rules, but Warlock has got it right by the way it should really work.

I agree with The_Warlock for all his examples but the fate, in my opinion you use fate to reroll a dice BEFORE it get effect and no after it so if you wait and lose all your fate mean you accepted the wheel of fate result.
