I've been taking part in an IRC-based Dark Heresy game over the past few months and I've been reminded of something I learned long ago in other internet games: combat is a gigantic time sink, far more so than it is when playing around a table. We're using a combat grid, taking turns individually and using a website called Invisible Castle to roll our dice, the latter being used to prevent cheating since rolls are stored for a few minutes for all to see. Players being inattentive is a non-issue, thankfully, but it still takes a long time to resolve combat.
How do those of you playing under a similar format find the duration of combat , and do you have any advice for speeding things up a bit?
