New To The Game, A Few Rules Questions

By Drevin, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I just bought the starter set yesterday and played one game with a friend. We really liked the game and I look forward to buying more sets. Anyways on to my rules questions. I apoligize a head of time for these dumb questions. But these were some that we had after playing.

1. The Plot card Condemned by the Realm (says: When revealed, choose an opponent. Then, that opponent must choose and kill a character he or she does not control, if able. What does this mean exactly? A character he or she does not control? Does that mean he can then kill one of my characters?

2. When a attachement is put on a character can it later be moved? Didnt see any rule for this.

3. The Card Poisoned Wine ( says: Any Phase Kneel 1 influence to move Poisoned Wine to another eligible character.) Does the original owner of the card control this or the person who now has Poisoned Wine on their character?

4. The Card Khal Drogo's Tent What is the benefit of attaching it to your house card?

1) That means the chosen opponent must kill another player's character. In a 2-player game, that means a character controlled by the player who played the plot. This is a plot that makes some sense in multiplayer, but is rather crappy in 2-player games. The negative effect is somewhat balanced by the high income of the card, but that's cold comfort. You could time it so that you minimize the damage done to you (like playing it when you have no characters out), but that's difficult to achieve. I'd recommend that you switch it for another plot from the decks you're not using in 2-player games.

2) It can only moved or removed if card effect allows you to do so, like the one on Poisoned Wine or Maester Cressen. Apart from that, the attachment stays put until the card it is attached to leaves play, in which case it goes to its owner's discard pile.

3) The player who played the attachment still controls it, even if it is attached to an opponent's character. Please also note the difference beween "own" and "control". Each player owns the cards he started play with. Ownership of a card can never change during a game. Control can change, for example with Seductive Promise or Support of the Kingdom.

4) If you're playing against a deck that is strong in location control, it's safer to ply it as an attachment, and vice versa. If you're only playing with the core set, the difference is not big. You're probably safer playing it as an attachment most of the time, especially against the Baratheon deck, when it would be vulnerable to Support of the Kingdom and Fleeing to the Wall.

Hey thanks!! you were very helpful. Any sugestions for buying the expansions? Should I buy the large expansions first and then feel in with the smaller ones?

First of all, welcome to the game, always great to see the community growing. There has been an increased influx of new player in the past few weeks. Have a look around at the other forums, especially the General Discussion and Deckbuilding forums, and you should be able to quickly spot a number of threads started by new players, many of them asking the same questions, and you should be able to find comprehensive answers in those theads.

I will take a look thanks.
