Looking to start playing, got a couple questions

By Zephryl, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

So, I wanted to start playing this, but I have a couple questions.

Firstly, the Core Pack is currently out of stock, is there anywhere else I can get it for a reasonable price, or will it be restocked soon?

Secondly, are there any extra packs people would recommend I get, or should I wait before buying more?

And finally, what currency does the online store here use? I'm assuming it's US Dollars, but I can't find anywhere that states it for sure.

Thanks for the help~

I ordered a 2nd Core set a couple of months ago from Maelstrom Games - http://www.maelstromgames.co.uk/index.php?act=cat&cre=lcg-ffg-got - which arrived this week. They aren't listing any as in stock at the moment, but you could try contacting them about it. Whereabouts in the world are you? chances are, someone else on the forum can direct you to somewhere a bit closer to you.

As far as getting extra packs of cards, it depends what you're looking for- to play Greyjoy, you need Kings of the Sea (look for the new version which has 3x of each card, not the old version that's only 1x and a resin house-card) and for Martell you need Princes of the Sun.

Aside from that, it's basically up to you. The chapter packs come in cycles of 6. I'd advise picking a cycle, and trying to get the whole 6, as a lot of them will have similar themes and build together. There are also big-box expansions for Stark, Baratheon and Targaryen, but if you're providing all the decks for your games, you might want to be a bit careful about getting just one of these, as it will make that deck much stronger (and bigger if you've only got 1 core set) than the other - Chapter packs tend to have a more even distribution between houses.

Check out a site like Dabbler http://agot.dbler.com/ for details of some of the different cards available.

I'm in Australia, Tasmania to be precise, so an Australian website would be good.

The Core Set seems to be listed in 'Upcoming' as a reprint, so I've sent a customer support ticket asking when it's expected to be available, hopefully they'll respond soon, if not I'll send a ticket in at Maelstrom as well.

Since I'm more than likely to be providing all the decks, I think I'll look into getting the expansions as well. Though it sounds like that'd leave Lannister at a disadvantage, is there any way to prevent this?

Thanks for the response, and the link to that database, it's been very helpful.

In our group those of us with some extra funds share the expenses. I have 3 core sets the expansions for stark, baratheon , a couple of chapter cycles. having 1 expansion over others is fine. let the beginner players in your group use them. As for lannisters not having an expansion yet- there's a reason they don't have one yet, especially in joust.

Heh I see, good to know Lannister won't be at a disadvantage then.

Well, my Support Ticket was responded to, It seems that because of the HBO series, the stock is being bought up as fast as they can order it, and they prioritize the distributors rather than their own online store, so it seems I'm out of luck for now.

Can anyone point me to an online store that has the Core Deck in stock? Preferably one that uses AUD or USD, though any currency is better than none. I've found a handful of websites myself, but they're all listed as 'Out of stock', or shipping is freakishly expensive.
