New to AGoT, character card limit in play question

By xerospaniard, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

As the topic says, I just picked up the core set to play with some bud's of mine and we found ourselves with so many character cards out in play that it became almost silly to even try attacking one another. We had no duplicate characters out at the same time, as in 2 Robert Baratheons for instance.

Is there a limit to the number of characters you can have out in play? And is it typical of a game to have tons of characters in play on each side?

Thanks a ton

No, there is no limit to the number of anything you can have in play (other than only 1 copy of any unique card not already in your dead pile).

Typically, within the core environment, there are not enough kill effects outside of the Stark deck to really control the nuber of characers in play. If you are playing joust (i.e. 2 player format), might I recommend that you grab cards from the other two decks to supplement your decks. The inclusion of Wildfire Assault and Valar Morghulis goes a long way in keeping the population managable.

Edit: I totally meant that the rules do not limit the number of cards you can have in play at any one time (exception for uniques still stand, of course). Individual card effects may dictate otherwise.
