Couple Questions

By gforce200, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Good evening,

With three solo games under the belt, the rules are starting to solidify. Two quick questions:

1. For locations that allow the inspector to trade in 5 toughness or 1 gate trophy, can the inspectors trade in multiples at one time (10 toughness or 2 gate trophies for example) to get the effect two or more times in one turn or is an investigator limited to one trade each turn.

2. Creatures with the undead label. I have not found any reference to Undead in the main AH rules or the FAQ. Do undead monsters have any special rules applied to them?

Thanks

1. Each investigator may only have 1 encounter each encounter phase. There are some exceptions (items, special abilities, encounters) but they deal will encounter cards. Some investigator special abilities allow you to draw more than 1 encounter card and pick which one you encounter. Some encounter cards tell you to go to another location and have an encounter there. And there is an exhibit item called Summoning Glass which allows you to use a location's special ability in addition to having a normal encounter. But trading in items to get an effect counts as 1 encounter. So you can only make that trade to get that effect once per turn. This means, only 1 blessing per turn at the South Church, only 1 ally per turn at Ma's Boarding House, only 2 clue tokens per turn at the River Docks, etc.

2. There are no inherent special rules for Undead monsters. But there are things that deal specifically with them. The Cross common item, Jim Culver's special ability, and The Chill of the Grave Mythos card.

Just to add to number 2. The Madness card "Necrophobia", from the Dunwuch Horror injury/madness cards, also makes you more vulnerable to monsters with the Undead subtype

so You cannot for ex. trade 3 gate trophyes for 6 clue tokens in one encounter phase?

Only if you have 3 investigators each cashing in a trophy lengua.gif . Nets you a total of 6 clues, even if they are split 2 clues a piece.

sorry, I don't understand it. So you can, or you cannot exchange more than one gate trophy for clues in University in one encounter phase?

Each investigator can use the location ability once during their encounter phase. So, if there's one investigator, that investigator can exchange one gate trophy. If there are two investigators, each investigator could exchange one trophy. If there is one investigator with two gate trophies, that investigator could only exchange one trophy and would have to wait until the next turn to exchange another one.

An investigator cannot exchange more than one gate trophy for clues while in the Science Building location during the Arkham Encounters Phase.

An investigator may either spend one gate trophy or 5 toughness worth of monster trophies to obtain 2 clues. If a single investigator has (for example) 2 gate trophies then it will take 2 turns to exchange then for 4 clues.

During an entire turn each player could do this for each of their investigators (that's where this "3 investigators could obtain 6 clues" example comes from) if they all were on the Science Building location during the Arkham Encounters Phase.

And the same goes for any other location on any of the game boards that allows you to spend gate/monster trophies.
