Duplicate question.

By Steelemdv94, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Thanks for all your help guys, its really making this game enjoyable.

I just have a quick question about duplicates. You can place a duplicate on a character you have in play. If those 2 cards are different text, can I change the one in play to the new text? I can discard the duplicate in play to save that card. Can I also discard a duplicate from my hand to save it?

Thanks again.

When you play the second copy of a unique card, it always becomes a duplicate placed underneath the first copy that you played -- you can't place it on top in order to change which version of the card you're using.

And you can't discard a duplicate from your hand to save the character, but remember that a duplicate is free to play during the marshaling phase.

Moreso to the fact that when a duplicate is put into play and attached to the original card it's text box is considered to be wiped and replaced with a "Response" triggered effect. From the Core rules P19:

If one of your unique cards is about to be killed,
discarded from play, or returned to your hand
or deck, as a triggered “Response:” effect (see
later), you may discard an attached duplicate to
save the unique card from being killed, discarded,
or returned to your hand or deck.

Hopefully this helps to answer your second question as well.
