hotdogs...

By Sgt. G, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

SO,

Ive been running through the campains again. teaching the wife how to stomp me, but trying to get a grip on what kinda army i wana play more consistantly. In doing this. ive relooked at the "hotdog" alot. I keep being disapointed with this mech. Am i missing something tacticly? or am i just crazy?

Has anyone played these sucessfuly? if so , HOW?

The napalm thrower can target up to 2 units within range 2. That for me has made the hotdog one of my favourite walkers and as soon as we have done our "out of the box" campain and are playing with points for a few games I will be using two or three again.

It is a feared opponant of mine and a prime target. If you let it get in range and it gets a lucky roll, its goodbye to a unit or 2, its a right pain when it can wipe out a mech with one hit.

The Hot Dog is a very good walker, but it is tricky to employ to the best of its abilities. The best possible situation could could have is to maneuver the Hot Dog so it is adjacent to an enemy squad, with an enemy walker just behind it. Ths way you can use the napalm thrower on both them in one go, along with your machine guns, very likely decimating everything around you.

However, most adversaries with a shred of caution will never allow such a situation to come up, and so you often end up risking your Hot Dog's neck trying to get the napalm into range, and more often than not the Hot Dog ends up killed before it can really do a lot of damage. Plus, if you manage to position yourself in order to put all your weapons to good use, but end up rolling poorly, you'll most likely find yourself surrounded by several very angry enemy units, and will not live to see another round.

I never really could get much out of Hotdog, I was hoping now with buildings I would have a better chance with it. It would be great if my opponent would line up two squads and let me get close enough, so I could burn some squads.

I did like the Hot Dog, until I got my Mickey card...

Never used it again in a battlefield. I´d rather take the mickey and a BBQ for flames.

Aldarion, now that you mention it, I too use the Mickey instead of the Hotdgog.

I feel like everybody is taking the Mickey.... gui%C3%B1o.gif

What are the stats for the Mickey?

I don't have a card for it since I only have 2 of the starter box.

I just dispise how lazy they were with the design for the Mickey. I mean, it's just a Pounder with the cannon removed!

I intend to customize mine with some sort of short barrel. Maybe taken from a Ludwig....

Thanks, I like this, better than a Hot Dog, well I shouldn't say since I've only played 1 DUST Tactics game with my brother...

I dont think it was neccessarily lazy, more of a,"hey we could make a turret out of just having the barrel removed, lets give them stats for that too." Allies were the only one to get an extra variant out of that box.

But that's how the gun actually looks like, what they have done is added a longer barrel for the 17pdr. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howitzer_Motor_Carriage_M8

WOW. Really? That's actually what the howitzer looks like?! It looks exactly like it's missing a connecting piece.

Now I don't know what to do... I don't like the look of the "unplugged" Mickey, and even in Dust Models they've fitted their model with what lookslike the Steel Rain's cannon:

I like the look of it since I can just take of the Hot Dog's guns and use it as a Mickey...

Though the Mickey shouldn't have a tank of napalm on its back.

You could pop them off easily, but I like the look of it so I keep it on anyways. Wish I had some more to put on my Pounders also.

Thats the 1/35 version with petard and not the 1/48 Micky with the 75mm.

Heh, I can see I'll be going to the Mickey when I do my next DT purchase which was going to include a spare walker for each side.

Question: It doesn't say so, but I'm guessing that the walker boxes include all the cards for the various walkers you can build from it, correct?

So, I could take the 17 pounder barrel, plug it into the basic set Hot Dog and field two Pounders (with cards) plus whatever else I wanted to use the third walker as? Well except for a third Pounder.

You get everything in the box to field any variant, you don't need to plug a 17pdr in as you get multiple turrets for all weapon configurations.

Yeah, I was hoping somebody could tell me: what exactly comes in the Medium Walker box? Tell me if my guess is correct:

- 1 walker main body (legs)

- 2 turrets (1 with and 1 without the napalm tank)

- 1 missile rack

- 1 pounder cannon

- 1 flamethrower

- 1 searchlight

- 1 machine gun

Almost, you actually get:

- 1 walker main body (legs)

- 2 turrrets (1 with misslie rack and one with the napalm tank)

- 1 pounder cannon

- 1 flamethrower barrel

- 1 seachlight

- 1 machine gun

- 1 loaded token

But then if you want to field a Pounder you have to cut the napalm barrel out?
