Strange Situation regarding Warhorse and Finger of Death

By allawi, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi all,

Last week we had an awesome session of Talisman with all the Expansions and the following situation occured.

Player A = Ogre Chieftain with Finger of Death spell.

Player B = Philosopher with Warhorse

So player A lands on player B and decide to engage in Battle. He then immediately cast Finger of Death. Player A now argues that Player B must discard his Warhorse since he lost lives during Battle. But player B argues that Finger of Death takes place before the acual battle, thus he get to kep his Warhorse until the end of the battle.

Here is what the acual cards states:

Finger of Death: Cast on any character or creature who you are about to engage in battle. If cast on a character, he loses 2 lives. If cast on a creature, it is killed. Enemies killed may be taken as trophies.

Warhorse: Add your Craft value to your Strength during Battle. If you lose a life during any battle or psychic combat, you must discard the warhorse.

What is your thoughts on this situation and/or are there any official statement regarding the timing of this sequence.

Best Regards,

allawi

Interesting. I did not remember that the Warhorse said "during battle or psychic combat", I believed it was "in battle or psychic combat".

This shouldn't change the answer too much. The Finger of Death is cast when you're about to engage in battle, so you don't lose 2 Lives during battle but before battle begins. The Warhorse can't be lost this way, IMO. I hope this can be confirmed.

The Warlock is correct yet again!

Cool, thanks for clearing that up!
