I'm rather new to the whole RPG scene, but Deathwatch has peaked my interest enough that I'd consider joining. I've written in roleplay threads on forums and enjoyed them quite a bit and this seems like the next step. Only thing is that I know nobody around me that plays and obviously I need more than one person for this sort of thing. So I guess my question is this, is this playable over a forum such as this one or is it something more that needs to be done sitting around a table?
Rather new...
I run both actually. It depends how you like to GM/play. I run a big 14 person forum pbp and a smaller 7 person table top game. Both run well if you have the right players and GM. But, we all have our preferences.
What would be the major differences between doing it through a forum as opposed to doing the tabletop?
Pizza and faster turns.
Nah seriously doing it by forum is ok, but it feels a bit distant and kinda misses some of the fun.
That said it's kinda cool as you can more carefully script your characters actions, rather than it degenerating into ham Star Wars references (which I personally like).

Simply find and join an online round. You don't need to have a rulebook to start with. Just make sure it's run by a nice guy.
Alex
Well I don't mind getting a rulebook as I like reading the stories and everything else with it as well as being able to flesh out my character a bit more. I just didn't want to drop the money on it and not be able to play anywhere.
I play in The Russian's online game too, there's people dropping out regularly over there, so if you ask him nicely...
You have to be patient though, the game goes at a very slow pace now in the summer.
Alex
I'm very interested in trying out an online game myself. I have nearly 20 years of role playing experience, but I've never played in a pbp game or online. How do most people organize these kind of games? Regular posting schedule? Chat options?
I'd like to join a game if possible, since my regular gaming group isn't getting together as much as I'd like these days.

). either pm me or ak can give you the link over.
I'd like to join your game if you'll have me, but I don't know how to send pm using this forum. FFG should really upgraded their forums or switch to something more user friendly.

Send a friendship request. You can send PMs only to friends. An "undocumented feature" of this abomination of forum software.
Alex
Haha, even though we are friends... I have no idea how to send the PM...
FFG have really found a way to make us feel like common folks from the 41st millenium when it comes to technology!
I'll see if I can find out how to do it...
I found out how to do it.
When viewing your own profile, click "my friends" and you'll see an envelope next to your friends names. Clicking it will take you to the screen where you type the message you want to send.
Okay, thanks. I sent you the link.
