Descent vs. Playmobil

By Freker, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

When I was a little child I loved playing playmobil. I got some cowboys fighting my friend's indians:

Pauw pauw, you are dead. No my friend, you missed because you are too far away. But now my indian hero runs up to you and takes your scalp, you will be stunned. No no, I shot a second time. Pauw, pauw. I dodged your attack and will use my bow. Your arrow get stuck in my sheriff-star-armor. Pauw, pauw. Killed in a trap. No, yes. Come back to life. Pauw, pauw. And so on.......

Now 30 years later I play descent: The big playground has been replaced by a smaller map, the highly flexible home-made rules by a dictated rulebook and the big box with a great range of movable plastic components by about a 100 rigid figures. In fact the only difference is the 12 dice!

Oké, it has been a fall back, but now I am playing an truly adult game. And this big child really loves it!

And the bickering about loosely defined and unclear rules has been replaced by.... bickering about tightly defined and unclear rules! I know exactly what you mean... gui%C3%B1o.gif

Freker,

Wow...this is funny! For the last year my creative outlet has been painting all my Descent figures. But for several years prior to that, it was customizing Playmobil figures! It won't be too long before I can call myself an old man, but I will never stop loving Playmobil!

Here is the playmobil site that I shared (I'm pfd, my playmo partner was pfb). It is a dead site now, but I hope you can find some pleasure in it.

Perhaps someday we will get to play Descent together...we can use some playmo as giants. :)

Me too I was a big fan of playmobil before Descent. lengua.gif

You put a lot of energy in your hobby. Man, that caste looks great. Is that you with that little child (or maybe you with your big dad) at the roadwork?

Oh, and my son got some dino's for Christmas: About sixteen spaces on a descent board!

You're right, I put a lot of energy into customizing playmobil. It was supposed to be a mellow, frivolous hobby, but it got a little out of control. :) Descent is kinda the same...once I decided nothing hits the board until it is painted...well...at this point I don't know how many hours I've spent painting the darn things. :)

Yeah, that is me with my older son...I think that picture was taken about 6 years ago...

Love the Playmobil stuff. Genius gran_risa.gif

But I was always more the Lego guy. I also remember seeing somewhere someones version of the GWMB classic, Hero Quest, completely designed from Lego bits. In fact....

Check it out! My personal favourite is the Lego Yoda-headed Goblins. Perhaps something like this for Descent could work? Would love to see it! happy.gif
