Edge of Darkness - suitable for a solo Arbitrator?

By Anodyr, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Hi all,

I'm hoping to snare a friend into playing some DH, but as hes my only potential player I need an adventure that we can run with one PC. The idea of an Arbites procedural appeals, with the player taking the role as an investigator, as I think this would work well for a lone PC (all very BladeRunner...).

So, suggestions for a suitable adventure please? I ahd a very brief look at the intro to Edge of Darkness yesterday and noted that it starts with the discovery of a body - all well and good so far... I'll try and have a proper read of it later, but in the meantime if anyone can advise on its suitability for a solo game that would be most appreciated. in terms of power level, I dont mind having the player stat at a higher exp level to counter his lack of PC buddies, so thats not an issue.

Cheers,

Anodyr

I can see no problems with this. I have run Edge of Darkness 4 times now with different groups and it is very easy for a single investigative player to get through it. Just either increase his XP as you say or lower the amount of enemies he encounters.

I've looked through the Edge of Darkness and it certainly looks like a fun adventure for a single player. I would start him at at least rank 2 since he is by himself and keep a close eye on the fights to make sure he doesn't get overwhelmed. Other than that it should be good.

Another possibility is the Shattered Hope scenario. I have played and ran that one, its fairly simple, straightforward to a point and easy to modify for a single player. All you would need to do is watch the fights to make sure anything (especially the last fight) isn't too tough for a single player.

Although if your player really wants to be the detective than Edge of Darkness is the one to run, it looks to require a good amount of thinking and puzzling :-D

I say go for it, just give him some resources he can call on when he needs a bit of back up such as a squad car with two or three 'tactical' arbitrators (use enforcers or kill squad troopers from the core book). I know it's meant to be hush hush but if the Arbites turn up you can't connect it to the =I= so easily.
