AdMech Fashions

By The_Shaman, in Dark Heresy

Thanks for looking it up and posting this!

It's a bit tricky as Martin Footitt is "only" a sculptor and painter, yet his paintjob does have some official weight simply due to being on GW's website and him having worked directly for GW. Though his explanation sounds a bit random ("wanted to make him look more unique"), the white colour could then be reinterpreted as a sign of rank, or perhaps more of the character's independence and liberty to develop and follow his own personal style (given that rank is apparently denoted not by the white, but by the golden sigils). But I'm glad he more or less confirms the red as a must-have.

So was Jes Goodwin, yet he's defined more of the imagery of the 40k universe than almost anyone else.

Honestly, your definition of "valid material" seems to get narrower with every passing month...

Not really. If you've read my post carefully, you will note that I have credited his affiliation with GW. In this case, I have voiced scepticism because of how this singular painter with a singular miniature deviates from a pretty established theme throughout the official line, and due to the way he voiced his reason for doing so.

Note further that I have still accepted it as "probably canon". I do presume that there are sufficient open questions here to warrant this prefix - it may also come down to the exact meaning of the white colour (simple personal choice of the character or a specific meaning within the organization?), for one seems easier to justify as "in line" with the other material than the other. In the end, I don't think this will be cleared up soon, and ultimately it does not matter. What matters for me is that there's still red on the robe to make the character look as belonging to the AdMech, as stated by his own painter.

And it's not "my" definition, I'm only going by what people like Gav Thorpe or George Mann said. They should know best how GW operates.

I like it white!

What's the problem with white?

What I don't like is the new red and blue robe of sisters of battle.

"What I don't like is the new red and blue robe of sisters of battle"

Waaait, when did the Sisters become Barca fans?

I blame Messi. And Tzeentch.

Who is Barca?

Look the codex "Witch Hunters", the new stile of Our Lady.

The Adepta Sororitas traditionally only use three colours on their armour and clothing - black, red and white. All Orders adhere to this rule.

But I liked black & black!

What's wrong with black & black!?

Ok, even black & red is fine, but I hate blue edges of armor.

Aye, the black and black did look nice. I suppose it was regarded as "too plain" by GW, though that's just a wild guess.

Where did you spot any blue, though? If you're referring to the painting guide, the blue+grey touch on some parts of the armour was suggested merely for highlighting - a little trick done by painters to better show the details of the miniature. As you can see on the page before that one, the only colour listed for the power armour is black.

Which is in line with their rules:

"The uniforms of the Adepta Sororitas are based upon the original garments worn by the Daughters of the Emperor. The Orders of the Ebon Chalice and Valorous Heart display the colours of the original Convents, unchanged for 4.000 years. The other Orders continue this principle with only minor modifications to distinguish them on the battlefield.
The Orders Militant make use of three main colours in the design of their uniforms; black, white and red."

Even a washing servitor on deep cycle hot wash, double rinse ain't ever gunna get rust and oil stains out of whites. Its all fun and games up until your ad-mech turns up to work the next day with his potentia coil swinging in the breeze

Never wash red robes at the same time as white robes.

Pink Techpriests never prosper within the Mechanicus.

Barca is shorter for FC Barcelona, whose typical colors are red and blue. These guys , basically.
