I just bought this game over this past weekend (core set). Some friends and I played it for quite some time the other and had a blast and this is my new favorite card game. Now I am afraid that I will not find anyone else to play with besides my friends whom I know will get board of it especially around where I live in North Carolina (Lexington). Is anyone else in the same boat?
A newbies fear of not finding others to play.

Depends on if you are willing to travel a little
I am in a small town in Nebraska and love to play, but mainly I play with friends except 4-5 times a year when I travel to play with others. Plus there is a computer program if you really want to play others.
I don't know of a NC meta (seems like there was a SC one at one point - wasn't Butterball or someone from that area?), but post something in that section of the boards and see what happens!
I know a guy at Ft. Bragg. He came up to the DC regionals last month.
Saskatoon, I'm that Ft. Bragg guy. I just got into the game recently and I am loving it. Lexington is about an hour and a half from my house so that's not too bad. I know there's a guy in the Raleigh area as well. Hit me up on gmail @ rick.branagan and hopefully we can meet up for some Thrones sometime.
Now that I think of it when I move to college about 30 minutes away from Lexington to a big tri-city area I might find some players if I look but thats not for another 2 months.
I'm in the Triangle Area (specifically Chapel Hill).
I don't know anyone else around here that plays, but you might find someone at college (or at least be able to talk some people into trying it).
If you're going to UNC-G, then that's only 45 minutes from where I live.
I was going to attend UNC but I got a full ride from Wake Forest. Hopefully there will be a board/card game club at school or in the area.
Yeah, that's and hour and 30 minutes away from CH. Hope you find someone.
I'm also a NC resident (though currently stranded outside the country for a while...) I've already made plans to get together with "branagan3" when I get back, so there is hope for a Carolina Meta! You all really should go ahead and sign up on "Cardgamedb.com" and put yourselves on the "Member Map"! Would be nice to have some "company" there! And would make it easier to get together occassionally.
I'm on the coast (Camp Lejeune area), but wouldn't mind driving to Fayettville or R-D-CH area once in a while for a "Thrones" session!
BTW - kind of started a thread a while back for Carolina-area players here:

Yeah I know it's more for my "neck of the woods", but I didn't see any other Carolina area threads when I posted it. Post over there if you are so inclined!

I just realized this sounded super cold. I don't mean to be rude. Driving 1 hour and 30 minutes is not that bad to play a game that I have no one else to play with.

Try inviting new people over to play with, or go to a comic book / gaming store in your area that do a lot of different types of card games and try getting new people involved. We had a core group of 5 that played 1 time a week. We found a card gaming store like 15 miles away that had open play. We went up there to play a couple games and got some other interested and now we are close to getting a league started.
I'm sort of in the same boat. I have the core set but I'm not sure if I will buy more cards because I don't really have anyone to play the game with. At least you seem to have some people near you. I live in Arizona....and it seems like I'm the only one that plays out here. I'm right on the border of California so I might be able to find people there to play with. I wish you luck in your search.
Your fine dude. Maybe I will venture out to the triangle when I visit some friends at UNC and NCSU.

There are some local hobby stores in surrounding cities that I may try. The one that was in my city closed like 8 years ago. Hopefully I can persuade the owner of the big comic store in my colleges city to allow some people to play in his store if I dont have luck finding people at school.
Oh and my girlfriend told me that she would try it (among other games like Munchkin) due to the fact that I got her addicted to A Song of Ice and Fire.
I know this is a bit of threadomancy, and for that I apologize, but since I saw that a few people posting on the thread were in central NC, I wanted to note that I'm in Raleigh and have recently started playing the game (pulling in a friend to play here and there) and I'd love to have the chance to play more with people who are enthusiastic about playing.
So if any of you want to get together in the triangle, let me know, because I'm totally down for it!

I'm the guy in the Triangle area. I'm up for getting together sometime. My wife and I can sort-of play the game, but we've never had anyone else to play against...so we're not that great.
Well, that'll make three of us that aren't great! If you want to get together sometime, let me know. I am definitely more a friendly, casual dude than a seriously competitive one, so I hope that's ok.
Followup, since I basically stated the same thing about getting together twice:
I assume SFG is the best store for you. I'm not totally familiar with their standard schedule for card/board game nights, but I can make sure my schedule's free whenever to meet up & play.
Here's the Sci-Fi Genre website, with their schedule on the front page.
http://www.scifigenre.com/store/
I haven't been up there on a boardgame night before, but I was planning on going tomorrow to see if there were any other AGoT players. I know there has been at least one other person buying the new packs/expansions.
I prefer to be competitive, but casual is fine too. That way you can use stupid decks that don't make sense, but are fun to play.
I definitely don't have a problem playing against a competitive player - just noting that I can't ask you to expect much from me in that regard (at least at this point, I guess - I'll try and up my game for sure - I am not a veteran of card games).
I might be able to head out to SFG tomorrow if you think there's a chance there might be a few players (or if you'd just like to meet).
I can't say for certain that there will be any other players. My wife and I will head up there, scout out for players, and play some if we run into anyone.
I am going to ride on out there probably around 6pm or so tomorrow to check things out. Hopefully I'll be able to catch you all for a game or two.
@ ikatowi: Raleigh's not that far from me or "branagan". I'm in the Lejeune area and he's in the Bragg area. Would encourage you to post your location on the "member map" on cardgamedb.com - sWhiteboy and I are already on there, and branagan will hopefully list himself once he gets back from GenCon. There is at least one other guy in Wilmington who just started getting into the game, too. Granted, we're not all of us THAT close to each other, but as others have said it is certainly feasible to get together once in a while for a meet-up. (Having said THAT, I'm out of the country on an extended "business trip", but will be back to Coastal NC eventually...)
