Navis Scions can't find the Astronomicon

By grffnhwk, in Rogue Trader Rules Questions

I was curious about the Navis Scion and liked the unique character it allowed me to build, however reading the rules and seeing some others Navis Scion builds on the net that were taking Awareness at 100xp cost. It left me wondering about Awareness and the Scion. So I sent in my question and here's the response:

>Rule Question:
>Hi there,
>I have a rules question regarding the Navis Scion on pg 90 of Into the Storm. Under the "Note" on pg 91 it states that "Although this Rank replaces Rank 1 of >the Navigator Career, it does no re-list the Navigator's starting Skills and Talents. All Skill and Talents listed here are in addition to the Navigator's starting Skill >and Talents."

>I read this as meaning it replaces all skill and talents except those granted in the black box on pg 61 of the Rogue Trader core rulebook. Does this mean that a >Navis Scion does not get Awareness as it's not listed under it's skill list nor granted as a starting skill?

>Thanks,

Hello <concerned future navigator>,

You read this correctly. However, you can still buy Awareness. Pg 70 of Into the Storm makes mention that any "missed" advances from an untaken rank can still be picked up for double their usual cost. It's a bit expensive, to be sure, but that's just the price for taking an Alternate Rank.

Thanks Sam for clearing that up for me. I appreciate it. So there's in fact a hidden 100xp hidden cost in taking the Navis Scion Alternate Career. :) No self respecting Navigator would go without Awareness.

Well it is a Basic skill.

My guess?

They forgot to add it in at 200XP.

BFK hidden plasma drive cough, cough.

My guess - Sam just pointed out the rule in the Into The Storm book that means you can take it for 200XP. Why put something twice when you've already said it earlier?

Because of the Calixis Privateer.

He has to buy a certain skill at a higher price.

And because FFG has proven to forget/misprint stuff in their tables. (Storm trooper detatchment/plasma drive)

heck this is a 40k publication, i fully expect it to have errors the size of a barn. Eldar codex , dire avengers.

Yes i know its a different company, but its the same 40k after all.
