Some questions after a few plays

By SolennelBern, in Talisman

Just played another 2-player game and have some questions that occured during our game:

1- You land on a space that ask you to pick 1 Adventure Card, and this AC is an Object (magic or not) that you don't want and you ditch (drop) it on the space, when another character lands on that space, does he pick another Adventure Card or he can't since there's already one on that space? Do Objects count in the total of cards on a space?

2- You have an object, follower or anything that allows you to roll 2 dice, when you spend 1 Fate to reroll, do you reroll 1 die or your total pool of dice?

Thanks a bunch again for your help and enlightment!

1 - Any Adventure Card in a space counts as a card towards the space. So another character landing on a space with a card would not draw again.

2 - Only one of the dice may be rerolled!

For 1, the way talismanamislat described it is correct, however, as a variation, the way my group plays is if it is an item that can be obtained, it sits there taking up space and you draw a card whether or not you decide to take the item or not. In other words, the object does not count to card limit for that space. We find this variation makes it more interesting because otherwise a player who lands there gets no action that turn whether they take the item or not. Most times the discarded item no one wants anyways.

2. I personally dont like the variation that the rules have for horses. Warhorse is one thing, but the regular horse, rolling 1 die or 2 makes little difference, all you do is move around the ring faster....how we play is that when you get a horse, instead of rolling two dice and adding the total for movement, we roll 2 and chose which one we want to move. This gives way more options in regard to movement. Some might say this makes it overpowered, but I prefer it this way. This really has nothing to do with the question, just thought I'd put my 2 cents in.

Thanks both of you for your clarifications, appreciated!

Other question: In the rules it's clearly stated that a character can have any number of followers. What about having 2 horses, 1 War Horse and 1 Riding Horse? Can you still use both? Like using the Riding horse for your movement and then the War Horse when attacking, even in your same turn?

Yes you can. The riding horse is used for movement and the war horse when you engage in battle ( Just remember that you also lose the war horse if you are defeated in psychic combat )

Lose a life in battle or psychic combat for the Warhorse to be discarded!

Me and mine don't really card about speeding up a game, but if we did, this would be a small but more sensible way to do it.

Me and mine don't really care about speeding up a game, but if we did, this would be a small but more sensible way to do it. We might even add that Followers would fit this category... or any card that the character (player) could simply pickup unchallenged. This arrangement also means that if such a card is the only one on the space when you land there, you still have to take some risks to get to it by drawing a card most times.

I like playing that if the Adventure Card is an object and a character ditch it and leave it on the space, it doesn't count as the max card for that space, especially in a 2-player game. Help speed up the leveling and add more fun and option for exploration.

As far as horses followers go, I might add my house rule that you can have any number of followers but only 1 horse at a time. Don't know how it could work out but could add a little more "realism" to the gameplay...even thought we play a fantasy game and realism isn't really an applicable concept in this setting...

Thats how my friends and I play, basically you can abandon anything on a space and it doesnt count towards the space limit. Anyone can then pick it up if they chose. It does save a little time, and it makes the game smoother. Actually, a while back I took the radical step of removing A LOT of the filler cards. The senseless items or followers that no one ever seems to use. This made the game MUCH smoother. I posted about this a while back and got a lot of flack for it, but I don't care, it works for my group.
