Fortune Points reward.. it's a bugged rule :(

By Galdor, in WFRP Rules Questions

Sorry for my complain, but

if I give 1 fortune point (as a reward) to a player character that has already all his maximum fortune points (3), well, he cannot gain that one, because he's at his limit... right?

I think that it's so sad, because I can use that reward method, unless a Character has already spent any Fortune Points!!

Moreover: at the beginning of each session, when all the PC have their maximum fortune points, well, I can't reward them in any way, and that frustrates them so much!

When rewarding good roleplaying and thinking I sometimes just throw in an extra fortune dice on the check. Furthermore it's possible to reward the group by adding fortune points to the fortune pool on the party sheet, where everyone gets a fortune refresh when there are as many points as there are players.

I seldom give fortune points back to the players directly, by adding to the pool on the party sheet everyone knows that a refresh might be close and has time to spend some of their points before the refresh.

Well, I understand, but -by RULES- I give fortune points to party pool only when all the PARTY works well together.

If a single individual PC makes something good I give him (and only to him) a fortune point (always by Rules) gui%C3%B1o.gif And this is logical: why should I reward all the group when only one single player made something good (and not all the group)? serio.gif

We have a saying..

"Dont leave a lucky corpse"

Since rewarding everyone, at least in my experience, is generally more rewarding. Everyone gets happy that the player roleplayed well which is a reward in itself and in my experience it leads to that everyone tries to contribute (to bask in the glory of the others approva or somesuch). It also gives me an oppurtunity to reward players on different levels of "roleplaying experience" so to speak, a newer, more shy player, can be rewarded and encouraged to contribute more and gets the courage to roleplay even more.

An example of adding fortune points to the pool can be found in the Game Master's Toolkit on page 34-35.

"If the party defeats an important enemy, for example, you might add a fortune point to the party sheet. If a player makes a great joke that has everyone in stitches (and isn't disrupting play), give the group a fortune point. This not only rewards the action, but makes the entire group appreciate the gift."

I think the quote above shows that throwing fortune into the party pool can be done quite liberally and even if only one player did something to earnin the reward. Anyways, I have extended the fortune pool point rewards to doing interesting things with chaos stars (so if a player rolls a star and narrates a good effect of it, the party gets a fortune point to the pool).

Then the GM Toolkit gors on to talk about fortune dice as a reward for clever thinking and roleplaying. I can't seem to find where it says to reward a single individual PC with a fortune point, only with fortune dice. So if you have a page reference it would help.

So to summarize I do the individual rewards with fortune dice and group rewards with fortune pool (and good roleplaying, even from only one player often goes to the pool reward).

My players soon realised that its not big or clever to die with 3 fp left! Better to spend them earlier, to make sure you get the benifit from them and hopefully avoid death in the first place. For your topic, it means that generally smart players will spend FP early so they can take advantage of refreshes.

That being said, when I know theres a refresh possibly inc soon I do draw the players attention to the fact that they are close to a refresh.
