Duplicate vs. can not be saved

By Callistan, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Played my first game last night which saw Stark crush Baratheon (16-0): the wife was happy.

On to the questions:

1) If you have a card in play with one or more duplicates and it is the target of of an effect that says kill character and character can not be saved, does the card get killed (along with duplicates) or does a duplicate get discarded or killed (see #2)?

2) If the duplicate does save the character does it go in the discard or the dead pile? If it does not save I assume they all go to the dead pile.

3) Bonus, unrelated question: In what expansion do you get the neutral house card?

Quoting the core rules:

"If one of your unique cards is about to be killed,
discarded from play, or returned to your hand
or deck, as a triggered “Response:” effect (see
later), you may discard an attached duplicate to
save the unique card from being killed, discarded,
or returned to your hand or deck."

So duplicates would go to your discard pile when used to save a character from being killed, discarded, or put back into your hand.

That being said, discarding duplicates saves the character, so if "cannot be saved" is in effect, then I'd say that duplicates can't help you.

That was myimpression as well given the weight the word "cannot" has been given in the FAQ.

Good to know. Many thanks to both of you!

It is in Illyrio's Gift

Thanks Darksbane.

Also looked at and tagged the card database. Very handy!
