Bronn and multiplle triggering before valaar!

By player724529, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hello,

A tough question has been asked in a game yersteday.

My opponent had in play Bronn and many other characters, among them Tywin (the one who generate money on him.

He waited many tours collecting money on Tywin, then before plotting he used an event to kneel Bronn and use his ability choosing many different characters.

Then he played Valaar Morgulis :

He wanted to save all his characters like that, but I don't think it works like that : I explain.

He use many time the ability of Bron who create a kind of Passive ability if the target unit would be killed.

So I think that when all these characters dies this abillity happened at the same time and like told in the erratta when many abilities should happen at the same time the active player chose wich one happen first. The result is that the first one of this characters dies then Bronn stand instead then we resolve the second character... Bron already standing cannot stand so the effect is Illegal so does'nt happen... at the end one is "saved" the others are killed normally.

What HE think is that all of that happen in only one time and Bronn stand once for all... like one single effect (but 'cause it^s trigerred many times I doubt it is a single effect).

I know it's not very clear but the situation is quite complicate and Bronn is a very special character.

What do you think ?

Bronn clearly says "...if that character would be killed and Bronn is kneeling, stand Bronn instead of killing that character."

We know from the way that saves are played (one at a time, opportunity to save as many characters as are killed by the single kill effect) that even though a kill effect is applied to all the characters at the same time, they are considered to be killed individually. As such, Bronn will only be kneeling (and his replacement effect therefore applicable) for only one character. He cannot stand "instead" of killing that character for more than one character, either. Bronn must go from "kneeling" to "standing" for each character that would otherwise be killed.

So, because the characters are considered to be killed individually by the one mass killing effect, all the replacement "stand instead of killing" effects conflict. As a result, the First Player (not the "active player" - there isn't one in the plot phase anyway) decides the order of resolution. The first will not die when Bronn stands, and all the rest will fail the subsequent "and Bronn is kneeling" checks when it comes their turn to go through the replacement effect.

I mean it's quite tough because Bronn is en exception... it is not a response ability it is not a save effect, it is a quite special effect regarding all the other cards and effects in the game.

Bu the point of rule is not so complicated and you confirmed what I thought... thanks or the answer.
