Great, thanks for sharing! Boy, 7 rounds is a lot of Swiss! By the way, do you know the restricted card for the winning deck?

Look in thread Preliminary report - French Nationals 2011 (there is a link to deck list)

I watched the video from the French nationals tournament final. That stark shadows deck is close to one that I faced last year at Gencon. Very annoying deck to play against. It seems like the Martell player also had a terrible draw, overextended in the first round, and then never recovered from the Valar.

On a side note, I love to see decks from overseas because their metas are just sooo much different and the decks they play have so many cards that I never see played here. Kinda like Areo Hotah. A cost 4 ally is something that would probably be scoffed at here with all the trait manipulation and Ally hate flying around here since the Targ Box came out.

Lastly, I loved being able to watch a video of the final. We need more videos like that.

That's a very balanced top 16: 3 Stark, 4 Lannister, 1 Greyjoy, 3 Greyjoy, 2 Targaryen & 3 Martell... and interesting that the Neutral Night's Watch deck finished last.... And I hadn't seen anyone build a "true neutral" deck for any ofThe North agendas.

I thought it was so informative at KublaCon, I did the breakdown on mean place/average points by House in Swiss. Rather than calculating the std. deviation, I'm then going to list the first, third, fifth & seventh place by house (which would be the median for 4 of them) to show "depth."

Particpants - House (Avg. Place) / Avg. Pts

13 - Stark (38th) / 17.3 points / 6th - 15th - 28th - 36th

13 - Lannister (29th) / 20.0 points / 1st - 5th - 23rd - 30th

13 - Baratheon (49th) / 14.8 points / 13th - 35th - 47th - 53rd

10 - Greyjoy (36th) / 17.8 points / 3rd - 9th - 31st - 49th

12 - Targaryen (42nd) / 15.8 points / 11th - 17th - 29th - 44th

14 - Martell (34th) / 18.1 points / 7th - 16th - 21st - 25th

I'll be curious to see more of the pairings of house & agenda (and will be seeing just how Google Language Tools are when I translate the Le Trone de Fer boards to look at decklists). Martell's high average does seem to bear out parallels with US finishes. And given the performance of a Stark/Shadows deck in "The Chosen Few," I should have been giving it a more serious look. When I had resorted my collection a month ago in preparation, I'd pulled all of my shadows and shadows related cards together, anticipating a CoS deck as an option. I was struck by how many of the Stark cards also required Winter. From the French forums, Comm commented "It is true that the strength of the deck is that it does not need the winter (although there is stronger), and it works without problem in Summer. You do not need to do the battle of the seasons, the opponent must do, and that's really huge."

Looking over the decklist, it looks like the "House Stark only" cards are Arya Stark (CoS) x2, Catelyn Stark (LoW) x2, Reek (MotM) x1, Tower of the Hand (TTotH) x1, Frozen Solid (LoW) x2 "and" Grey Wind (LoW) x1... but they seem like a murderer's row, especially given that it's an event-less deck.

Congrats again Maekar.

Thank you Luke and Direwolf for collecting the data in a way that's easier for me to handle.

Just an explanation about the result of the Neutral Night's Watch deck : His player, Chaodiz-Padre, began to play only 2 weeks ago. So this result is not really significant. But his decklist was not so bad (based on the principe of Arthur's deck).

I did not mean any harm by it... only a curiosity that it was easy to have an average finish when only one person played it and it was last. I was more taken by the curiosity of not having a house card. Was there any sort of specific benefit he was going for by avoiding a house affiliation? Aside from fitting the story.

Very interesting to see all the different house represented. Also, somewhat surprised that in all the matches after the cut the seedings held (higher seed from Swiss won) - not a single upset if I read correctly.

How did you go about the pairings for the 1/8 finals? I would have expected 1vs 16 and 8 vs 9, but it doesn't look like that's what occurred?

Fantastic turnout, and great to see almost everyone stay for a full 7 rounds of Swiss. An impressive event.

It would be nice to have some sort of a list/report from the winner telling what houses and agenda's he faced during the tournament(aside from the martell summer maesters in the final).

Is there any AGOT card searching sire in French?

I want to know how the deck build, but can't read.

It's exactly what occured :

There is this one : http://bounafouni.free.fr/TDFLCG/

It's always interesting to witness seeds 12 & 15 in the final match.

I'm trying to remember, do they play 2 out of 3 matches at Stahleck in the "out-rounds?" And if so, do they do so at any other large tournaments in Euorpe?

Interestingly, there were four Lannister vs. Martell games in the top 16 matches, with Martell taking 3 of them (twice against higher seeded Lannisters)...

Agreed. :)

As far as I recall from last year, I think the "out-rounds" are single elimination. I have been known to be wrong though.

6 & 12, actually. ;)

Only the final match was played in 2 out of 3 matches there (And I think it was the same at Stahleck).

Agreed, the video was great. Very interesting game. I wish I knew French, though. the only word I understood was the final turn, "Vahreese!" :)

Yeah, I think Ally hate will only get worse now with all the options for trait manipulation. I love the Hotah; don't love the Ally trait.

Did anyone play decks focusing on trait-manipulation? Lion's Gate, Old Nan, Dissension, Horn of Dragons, Abandoned Fort - stuff like that?

Again, my bad... Maekar, Marduk... that's small print for these near-sighted eyes to see sitting so far back from my computer screen. :)

Any word on the official Melee results?

And most importantly, can we see decklists?? :)

I've settled on the Immortal Beric Lannister deck, Siege of Winterfell for Stark and Bara Rush. Now I'd like some solid builds for Greyjoy, Targaryen and Martell :0

Cheers

Fel

Ok i will translate decklist today.

@Widowmaker In fact here everybody who can have trait manipulation use it... It's just amazing, and there is a motto in france "Old Nan is the best card ever" ^^

But in fact some people create deck around Dragon horn and Old Nan ( the "Old Nan's Band" ^^)

And Greyjoy players now says that they will include the Drgon horn in every deck, thanks to targ box, and new chain ^^

What is interresting is to note that all winter greyjoy placed higher than non winter greyjoy.

Baratheon asshai shadow were both placed higher than the hordes of knights.

Targaryen summer placed higher than knight of the hollow hill

I like the restricted list, any house could have won, all were reprensented, the metagame is diversified. Good job on this.

During rounds I've met :

1. A stark tully

2. Hyunkel playing winter greyjoy, one of my hardest game but toll gate prevented him from winning a single military challenge with a war crest so he couldn't play price of war. Hopefully for me I knew his deck.

3. Stark siege of winterfell I think.

4. Maekar (the winner), I crushed him as usual ;-p. Well to be fair, he didn't draw into bran, I used the apprentice to discard his king's landing and he couldn't draw another one. He did better after cause the rhum from the night in him has faded away :D

5. Kordovan a martell summer, I outdraw him, only 3 cards left in my deck when we finished the game.

6. Arthur lannister, perfect draw against him, he would have won if we had more time to play, his deck was incredible, just too hard to play a 8 games marathon, he made a single mistake and lost against Marduk in 16th finals. If the final rounds would have taken place the day after he would have been the joust champion.

7. Ticondrius, winter greyjoy.

Then :

8. Chgros, martell master path with trait manipulation, he made a mistake against my wasted orders and attacked with his master of the sun, I revealed valar.

9. Katagena, stark. The winner will be the next overall champion (he placed 5th in melee and I placed 2nd), so it was a kind of final for us. Katagena is also a friend so I was a bit disapointed to remove him from the run

10. Jaelen, martell summer. I didn't get my usual draw engines (I was draw cap every games before), so it started to be difficult after both valar, drawing 2 cards. I couldn't go back in the game, first loss of the day. Well played Jaelen.

I didn't met a single targaryen which is a good thing cause I would have more problems against them.

Thanks a lot for all the detailed information on this thread. It's great to learn more about how the game is played in France. It's really interesting to see that there are indeed quite big differences between national metas. I hope to be able to play with you guys face to face in the future. Until then, we have OCTGN.
