How are you going to play your army?

By Myrnir, in Dust Tactics

Ok this might be a bit premature, but with all the new releases coming out soon, the options for your infantry and vehicles just got quite a bit more interesting! What units does everyone see themselves as favoring? For infantry are you gonna go light and fast with Recon/Engineers? More balanced with Gunners/Battle Grenadiers? More Heavy inf with Grim Reapers/Heavy Laser Grenadiers? Weird war with apes n zombies? Low tech with rifles or high tech with lasers?

And on the vehicle side, do you favor blast em walkers like Pounders/Ludwig? More arty like Mickeys/Lothars? Light walkers that you can take more of? Or higher tech light walkers?

I know alot of these answers may end up being scenario specific, or people might just take a bunch of different units, but where do you see your "play style"?

For me, I'm gonna start out kind of basic (I'm still very new to the game) with an American rifle platoon for medium-large games that consists of a Boss Squad, Bazooka Joe, 4 x Recon squads, and 4 x Gunner squads. Walker support will be 2 x Pounders and a Mickey.

I´ll buy the single expansions for Axis & Allies and when I painted everything I´ll decide what´s coming next.

But I think the axis will look like that:

1x Command squad

1x Siegrid von Thaler

2x Lasergrenadiersquad

1x Tankhunters

1x Sniper squad

1x Spotters

2x Ludwig

1x Lothar

the idea is simple strike hard^^

Im planning on doing three armies for my axis. The first, a waffen ss kampgruppe is nearly done, its a mix of everything that has been released all mashed toghether. Next up will be the 'Science of the Occult' army, zombies, gorillas, laser (reg and heavy) grenadiers, possibly a laser light walker, all lead by Sigrid and any other weirdness that comes out. The apple of my minds eye right now though, is my planned falschirmjager (paratrooper) force. Im going to use recon grenadiers as my main units with panzer killers in support, snipers, light walkers of all sorts, possibly the combatenginners that are coming with the new starter and lead by Manfred. And Ill be switching all the heads with SOTR's FJ heads and painting them in splinter pattern.

For the allies i have done the UK PBI+Airborne army and will just add to it over time. What I really want are the sinosoviets, so far all i have is a Kv47, the rest being from other companies. And I want Japanese, prolly wont happen though...

How many points we talking?

Bazooka Joe

Rosie

3x BBQ Squad

Recon Rangers

Bot Killer Squad

Command Squad

Snipers & Spec Ops

Pounder

Mickey

So far I've been a bit underwhelmed by the Allies artillery tank, the Steel Rain. I've had more luck with the Petard Mortar than with the rockets, frankly.

Your occult platoon looks almost identical to one I'm thinking of doing too! I may also do a high tech laser platoon of reg laser grenadiers x 5, heavy laser grenadiers x 3, and maybe 2 of the new heavy flak gren. I would hold off on your flaschirmjager w/ splinter pattern (a must of course!) I have the Osprey book on painting falschirmjager models to help me too gran_risa.gif The reason I say hold off, is the comics and 1/35 Dust models have Racketten troops that are Falmschirmjager with rocket packs! They look just like the regular uniforms with a rocket pack on the back!!!

I'm just thinkin what kind of troops people favor in general, but I design my platoons around 32 pts of the old system, give or take a bit gui%C3%B1o.gif
