A question about Bloodthirster (Legends expansion)

By liouken, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

It says:"Double all damage assigned to units when they are assigned."

Then if I have 2 Bloodthirster in play, when a damage is assigned to a unit

a)2 damage assign to unit (not stackable)

b)4 damage assign to unit (stackable)

Which one is right?

B seems to be the correct one. Even if constant effects simultaneously meet their trigger, the controlling player resolves them in succession of his choice. So, when you assign 1 point of damage, you chose the first bloodletter, resolve the effects, thus giving you 2 points of damage assigned. Now you resolve the other one, working from those 2 damage that are already assigned.

Just for clarification, damage is assigned and then immediately dealt when coming from a non-combat source, such as tactics and actions, correct? So if I play Plague Bomb with a single Bloodletter in play, the end result (if no other actions are taken by any player) is 2 damage dealt to target one, 4 damage dealt to target two, and 6 damage dealt to target three?

Even if it's applied right after being assigned, it is being assigned beforehand, no?

That's what I'm asking. Is it still the case that damage is considered applied and then immediately dealt after that as long as it is not combat damage?

Non Combat Damage is the term for all damage generated besides combat damage. Non Combat Damage is always applied as soon as it is assigned before any other actions can be taken.

FAQ 1.4

So yes,the damage is assigned, therefore the doubling effect of the bloodletters works on that. The only instance where it does not trigger would be cards that let you 'move' damage from one unit to another or redirecting damage (since both go around the whole assigning damage phase).

Just poking in here cause LiouKen asked me to in another thread, but I think GrumpyStranger's analysis is perfect, I'd agree that's how you resolve the triggered constant effect.

Entropy42, thank you, and sorry to bother you.

I asked you to review this case just because GrumpyStranger's answer is different with my first judgement, so I need the second one to confirm this answer.

I do the rule judgement in my players group, and our main language isn't English, so I'm always very carefully about rule clarification.

Thank you, Entropy42. and Thank you, GrumpyStranger.

Ok, I was wrong. This is not how you resolve multiple Bloodletters.

In the example in this thread, the damage dealt is 3.

From Lukas:

The Bloodletter automatically doubles the damage being assigned as it is assigned, so once you assign a single damage to a unit then it is immediately doubled. This does work on non-combat damage, since you still assign it before applying it.

When there is more than one Bloodletter on the table, you use the rule for constant effects that says you always apply the net value. So if you are assigning one damage and have two Bloodletters on the table, then each one will double the damage, leaving you with a total of 3 damage being assigned (1 damage + [1 damage + 1 damage] = 3).

Put into a mathematical equation where X is the number of damage being assigned, Y is the number of Bloodletters and Z is the total damage assigned: (X + [X]Y)=Z . So three Bloodletters and a Plague Bomb would be (1 + [1]3 = 4) and (2 + [2]3=8) and (3 + [3]3=12).

@Entropy42

How to make something so simple so complex... LOL gui%C3%B1o.gif .

My algebra concepts are 20 years behind me !!! (Its a miracle I still understand them)

In clear terms :

1 Bloodletter = 2 X damage

2 Bloodletter = 3 X damage

3 Bloodletter = 4 X damage
