fix the elf?

By boxcornersdiety, in Talisman

One of my favorite combinations is the elf with the Orb of Knowledge... if I can make it happen. The minute the orb comes up, I go after any way I can. You then bounce between Woods spaces, picking and choosing from multiple draws on the Adventure deck. It's not easy to set up, but when it happens, the Elf can become potent on freebies at a higher rate than normal vs most other characters. That Woods to Woods option in the Outer Region gives him a higher percentage of landing on draw spaces to use the Orb to maximum effect.

You are using the Orb as it is now, can only replace a draw, not draw 1 extra and pick from those, right? Just sounds like the latter (as if he had the Orb of Prophecy Treasure).

Elf with orb is indeed effective,

Then you have more chance to draw a powerful place card like a strength pool, life pool etc and it stays on a space that you can always teleport too, if you go to a woods space. cool.gif

Sorry, I got confused... yes I meant the Orb of Knowledge and discarding any card you don't want to encounter... AND then the Orb of Prophecy is even better in the hands of the elf.

The Orb of Knowledge is another card that got neutered somewhere along the way since 2E. It used to be draw 1 extra card and discard one of choice (certainly more in keeping with the concept of "knowledge" rather than a redraw as some form of evade.) And in 3E there was the "Crystal Ball" instead, which was a one-time use item; You went through the deck and picked a card you wanted to be on top, then hoped you could get to it first.

Not sure why they changed the Orb of Knowledge in 4E/4ER, other than so they could create the Orb of Prophecy for the dungeon? Anyway... enough of this sidetrack.

If the elf could get a +2 in battle on wood spaces, then he was more effective.

If FFG can add wood spaces in the Forest expansion, then the Elf will get more movement control there gran_risa.gif

That makes him more interesting to play.
