Direwolf decks

By Skowza, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So I'm pretty excited about the new Direwolf cards, Guardian Wolf and Maester of Last Hearth . I've always been partial to the Direwolf build, and until recently ran a decent Siege melee deck with them. I often gave it to new players because it is really easy to learn the game with - not many moving parts, "just kill stuff" type of deck, and they did really well with it (and I never won a game with it, very frustrating to watch newbs beat us repeatedly with my deck that I can't use). Unfortunately new cards and an anti-military theme in my meta have made it weaker and weaker; I king of felt bad for the last newb who tried to use it, since the melee saw a Round 1 Uneasy Truce, Round 2 Muster the Realm, Round 3 Lineage and Legacy, Round 4 Valar, his Siege Response got cancelled by HCiT, and he just kind of sat there for most of the game. So it needs to be rebuilt, and I want it to be for joust this time. I'm not terribly concerned with it being uber-competitive, I just want it to be fun to play with again, and easy for new players to use, our meta is growing fast, we only had 5 players a month ago, now we have at least 12.
For attachments I was running 3x Shaggydog, 2x Grey Wind, 1x Nymeria.
Characters were pretty standard, 3x Feral Pack, 3x Direwolf Pup, 3x Wolf Pack, 3x Kennel Master, 1x Summer, 1x Lady, 1x Ghost (DotN) and some Lords and Ladies, Blackfish, KL Arya, Catelyn, Robb, Eddard, "draw off me" Sansa, and even Jojen Reed for a bit (laugh all you want, he's a 1-cost Lord character and believe it or not he made a big difference in a few games and I actually had 3 power on him from his ability on occasion). No Wolves of the North, they were too expensive and don't really do anything special.
I'm curious about the community's thoughts on the Direwolf options... with a bunch of Lords in the deck and attachment hate becoming more prevalent in the new cycle, Core Shaggydog might be better and would free up some room for other attachments (Frozen Solid). Guardian Wolf is kind of an auto-include. Do I bother with Maester of Last Hearth? He's not all that useful unless it is Winter at which point he is kind of expensive, and Winter requires a lot more cards to be added to the deck, but allows for more draw with Sam, but screws up the Feral Pack... arg. I think I would still use Siege, since all the wolves are lacking in other icons. I think I read that a Direwolf deck won (or did very well) in Regionals, which is awesome and Nedly... I don't want anyone's deck list, just want to hear general thoughts. Thanks!

You can't cancel the response from Siege of Winterfell with HCIT. See here , esp. reply #10.

Apart from the rules nitpicking, I got nothing to contribute, sorry. My Direwolf builds, like most of my Stark builds, suck. I mean, I love Stark, I just can't win with them.

I'd never seen that discussed before. Thank you.
