Reprinting of the base set?

By raohthekenoh, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I saw a posting on Amazon of a Game of Thrones LCG base set that was to be released on June 16th. Is this is a reprint of the base set, or is it being expanded to three printings of all of the cards, like is being done with newer LCG products?

The core set gets reprinted periodically, don't expect it to have any differences in card count from the current core set

FFG has explicitly stated that the core set will not be changed in its format and card distribution/quantity. I asked under the announcement of the Princes of the Sun reprinting at 3 copies each and Christian said it wasn't gonna happen with the core set.

I really wish they'd just print up supplement packs with 2x each of the 1x CS cards and 1x each of the 2x CS cards.

For Warhammer Invasion and LoTR where there are lots of cards that come with 2 or even 3 copies in the base set, it makes sense. But you only get 1 copy of the Thrones cards in the base set, so there is very little redundancy. You get aroudn 180 unique cards with each copy of the base set, which costs $40, so a full playset is $120. To get a full playset of 180 cards from chapter packs, you'll be paying around $135, so really, the Thrones Core Set is not a bad deal.

The supplement packs are a logistical nightmare, and I reckon FFG would rather wait until the chapter packs go out of print and then do a 3x reprint than to try to juggle to keep 2 "versions" of the same product in print/avaliable at distributors.

And really, if you decide to change collation mid-stream, don't you kinda owe it to the players who bought the now-obsolete product before the change?

Not if they were only available thru FFG. Do some quick calculations to see how many of each non-3x packs were sold, pick a % factor, then print up the supplementary packs & offer them for sale thru the website here. People would likely rather buy the supplementary packs than have to splurge on entire 3x sets of a cycle's worth of chapter packs, so FFG would still be making $$$ on the deal. And as the 3x reprints come pack into print, this supplementary method can tail off.

No.

1) The product isn't obsolete as long as no 3x counterpart exists

2) That extra cost everyone paid for during the "old" pack system is a "premium" to have a that product sooner rather than later. Somone waiting for a 3x reprint of the 1x/3x CP's is waiting a very long time and cannot enjoy/play with those cards until then.

3) You'd still spending less money to supplement your collection having bought/buying one 1x/3x Pack + one 3x Pack ($25 retail) than buying three 1x/3x packs ($30 retail) -- assuming they ever get reprinted.

It would be nice if they could reprint some of the cards from the earlier chapter packs too. A single 60-card pack would cover all of the cards from three of the older chapter packs which would need reprinting. Short of that, how about a print-on-demand service - isn't the technology available to do that at a reasonable price?

Presumably these ideas have been floated and discussed before and I guess they're unlikely to ever happen. Which is a shame - there are some nice cards available but I'm not fanatical enough to pay the price of a pack to get single cards.

I'd also suggest a new format - which is to collect ALL the older chapter packs from a series e.g. King's Landing into one boxed set so newer players can get it all in one go, and FFG reduces the number of SKU's product lines they need to manage.

I can foresee in 2 years time, we'll have so many chapter packs, it'll be really tough for stores to stock ALL the chapter packs even if they wanted to.

It already happens now. You simply go to the store and tell them to order specific older packs for you. And if you buy online - is it a problem?

I'm sure at somepoint there will be entire cycles that are out of print and old and they'll get wrapped up into a single box. The question is when. I'd say we are at least 2 or more years out form seeing that happen.
